I picked up a sporterized Enfield No4 Mk1 today!

Here's a picture of it that I took as I was paying $80 plus tax:

The stock has been cut, but it seems to be in OK shape. 1942 date stamp. Looks like it says:

So, where's the best place to get a reasonably-priced front lower and upper stock set? And, I guess a front barrel band, too...

Thanks! That link has everything. I also found this one. They look to have a fair price on the parts, since I really need all the wood, minus the butt stock.

Also, after looking at pics, it seems they moved the front band to where the middle was, when they sporterized it. So, I'll end up buying a middle band and the front sight protector.

Stay away from them. I purchased a mosin in person from them when I was local (they are near tampa, fl) and they were nice enough people but they have a sketchy reputation when it comes to shipping things and I know they definitely do not keep that website up to date.

I've always loved those Enfields! I'm so glad that you decided to restore it! It looks like you have the ladder rear sight. They are much more versatile that the two aperture tip up sights.

Ammo is a bit scarce but the boxer primed brass is commercially available and the bullets are the same as used in the 7.7 Jap cartridge. You can use lead cast bullets, too. They reload great!

So, here's a question... They have stamped and milled versions of the bands and of the front sight guard. How do I figure out which is correct for my rifle without seeing pics of their pieces? And the wood... they have walnut and beechwood. Can you tell from my pic in the first post?

As far as the wood it would depend on a lot of factors. FTR or refurbished rifles used whatever was at hand. I think traditionally Longbranch used Beechwood and I believe that walnut was used by the English factories, Fazakerley, Enfield, Maltby and BSA. I don't know for sure though. I could have it reversed. Also, I can't remember for the Australian ones.

ROF stands for Royal Ordinance Factory. There should be another symbol. I believe the 42 means it is a Maltby and it is not the year. Pictures would help interpret it all.
