Call it blasphemy but I'm not in love with the 1911. I do like the P220 i used to have but wanting capacity I've taken a shine to the FN45 any opinion on them? Have considered the new P227 but haven't seen on or seen how they look with the 14rnd mag. This would be a truck gun range toy and I'd probably put it on layaway as that's how I buy most my handguns.

It's nit blasphemy to be in love with a 1911; rather, its blasphemous to be in love with anything else.

Edit: just saw you said you're NOT in love... Terrble. Juss terrble.

    Get the p227

The magazines are double stack, so they shouldn't protrude significantly. The 10 round should be flush and the 14 shouldn't protrude any more than the 10 round P220 magazine.

Guess my top choices are the FN and the SIG, the FN my first choice does anybody have one? I used to have a P220 liked but not enough to stop me from trading for a SW M19 Snubby.

Handled an FN a few times, never got the chance to shoot it. Fits the hand nice, feels kind of bulky IMO, and that's coming from a Sig shooter.

My first modern pistol I ever bought was my W. German 226 my favorite and potentially the gun I'm most accurate with. So I know what your saying. The 227 just doesn't have what I want with the big extended mags. I have two of the old 18rn Mecgars for my 226 and I hate them though they are reliable just ugly.

Yep - shot them a fair amount; if I could afford one, I'd buy one. I like the M&P 45 as well, although I wish they'd up the capacity in a pistol that size.

I just recently got an XDM (13+1) and started shooting it in IDPA. If you're thinking about 14 round .45s I would recommend considering that as well.

The XDM in .45 is an awesome feeling gun--but I've never shot it. I was going to get that until I put my hands on a Para 1911. If you're looking for high cap .45 the Para USA black ops line is a good one...come with night sights and all right out the box.

Have an XDM 45 and two XD 40's. The 45 is on the heavy dide but like feel an way it shoots. You could save a little money and get an XD 45, doubt you'd notice the differance.

I'm old school, but not 100yr old school. Back in the '80s I happened on a good trade for a S&W 4506. Since then its never had weapons caused failure. Carried it for 12yrs. Its without doubt the best gun of any kind I have seen. LAPD officers still carry it. S&W will still produce them for LE special orders. ( mostly 4566DAO) Every time I take it out I return with a big smile. I like most 45's but love the 4506. Just saying, keep your options open

My wife shoots a XD45 and I shoot Glocks. The Glocks are for men with bigger hands.

I carry a S&W M&P 45 ACP as my duty sidearm. I have also carried a S&W 4506 and a Glock 21C as duty sidearms in the past. They are all solid handguns. Stopped carrying the 4506 when I went to plain clothes and went back to the S&W when the 45 version came out. Nothing wrong with the Glock. I've just carried S&W for years and feel better when one is at my side.

+1 on the P220, loved mine and regret trading it off.

I have a Glock 21 now, and like it alot. Very reliable and holds a bunch of rounds.
