I’m gonna boost my own ego and say I nailed it with the first paragraph of post 8.

The 50 BMG ballistics varies: with these 5 loads being the most common....
    Bullet mass/type Velocity Energy
    647 gr (42 g) Speer 3,044 ft/s (928 m/s) 13,310 ft⋅lbf (18,050 J)
    655 gr (42 g) ADI 3,029 ft/s (923 m/s) 13,350 ft⋅lbf (18,100 J)
    700 gr (45 g) Barnes 2,978 ft/s (908 m/s) 13,971 ft⋅lbf (18,942 J)
    750 gr (49 g) Hornady 2,820 ft/s (860 m/s) 13,241 ft⋅lbf (17,952 J)
    800 gr (52 g) Barnes 2,895 ft/s (882 m/s) 14,895 ft⋅lbf (20,195 J)

Starting with this data any good ballistics program will give you drop and velocity at range

Although I've done some long distance shooting in the past, I'm basically starting out myself, pretty much why I bought the Ruger Precision Rifle in 6mm Creedmoor. There is a lot of great detailed information on the internet, so I would say research can help. Also, I'm taking it in increments 200-300 yards, 300-500 and so on, and getting better at each before moving on. Of course, I haven't figured out yet where I might shoot further than 500 yards yet, since the range I go to doesn't go out further.

While I have not shot it very far yet, I have my rig. Went with 6.5 CM. Ground Zero Precision built me a sweet upper. I decided on AR platform. GZP’s build uses a barrel half the weight of AP’s.

For the scope I went and laid out 4 different 6-24 x 50 scopes. Monarch was disappointing. I have a few but this one was not great, which is what I was shooting for. Leopold was meh.

It came down to Vortex and Nikon Black FX1000. They were equal mostly. But I preferred the reticle on the Nikon said bought it. $900ish.

Really like it on that gun. Need to figure out my load now so I can do some ladder tests.
