Let me start with, I'm new here and still trying to git a handle on this social media thing, it's perplexing to say the least. Also, I have no dog in this fight because I am well stocked with the items that I know or think I will need. But after reading this thread I am courious as to where you would stand on a person selling a bottle of water or bag of ice for $20 the day after a hurricane hits the coast? Not looking for a fight, just opinions.
I donated quite a bit of money after the hurricane when GWB was president (Katrina?) I also volunteered to go down there with others from my job and we staged for about a week in Atlanta but were never deployed. The agents from my office all received an award for that - for staging but never being ddeployed. I turned it down could not see the point of getting an award for sitting in a titty bar - with thoise other agents - waiting to be deployed. I have donated to several rescue efforts after natural disasters over the years {at least prior to my wife getting 50% at first and then 40% currently of my pension (which is in no way from FICA/SS}.

By the way, water is a necessity of life; ammunition is a luxury for those who can afford it (and please do not tell me it is a necessity for some folks to be able to hunt to feed themselves - they can set traps for animals and/or can kill them as readily with a bow and arrows or a slingshot). You are comparing necessity to luxury and there is no comparison. No one has an absolute need for ammo to live but we all absolutely need water to survive.

You are reading way too much into the question, it was simply "I am courious as to where you would stand on a person selling a bottle of water or bag of ice for $20 the day after a hurricane hits the coast?"

Sorry, you missed my point, I thought you'd be able to figure out where I stand on the issue in youry question based upon my answer about my past actions. Since it did not seem to be clear to you - I would oppose it. As I said though, you are comparing selling a necessity for life to a luxury and there really is no comparison.

Been very busy the last couple of days so had not been following this thread or replying but had some time tonight so figured I'd read through all the new & some of the old posts and reply to some.

In reading through this thread again, I happened to notice someone else who replied to this thread apparently said in sum & substance, that if I (and I am pretty certain he meant me) had said ammo was expensive at Academy Sports (and I did say that) - that was a lie. Well, I have my receipts showing the ammo was quite a bit more expensive at Academy Sports than pre-frenzy prices in general. For instance Blazer 45 ACP was about 24% higher at Academy Sports than the normal pre-pandemic prices that had been around $13 to $15 per box (online plus shipping) as best I recall for the same ammo; steel cased 7.62x39 about 16% more (from what I have heard a the brand offered by Academy called Monarch is much lower qiality than the normal TulAmmo or Wolf yet the Monarch yet it was that much more expensive); Federal Champion 38 SPL, 158 grain, LRN ammo about 38% higher than pre-frenzy prices - which had been $14.71 at Target Sports but was $22.99 plus tax at Academy Sports. I believe the price has gone up on 38 since I bought mine in September.

    federal 38 copy.jpg

Those prices at Academy Sports reflect the prices at the store in Texarkana during September 2020 and October 2020 when I bought mine. So yes, I believed and still do believe the prices at Academy Sports were/are expensive for ammo relative to pre-frenzy pricing which is what I think most, if not all of us, have been comparing them to when discussing them.

So I'd like that guy - who seemingly indicated that I was lying about this subject - to tell us all how is it by his logic that I (or anyone) was lying about the ammo being expensive at Academy Sports? Or allow me to ask him: Was I wrong thinking you meant me but you really meant someone else was lying? Or is it you meant Academy Sport's prices as compared to prices currently on GunBroker - as opposed to pricing during normal times in recent years (which is what I meant and I think that any half intelligent person would have understood me to have meant) - when you said it was a lie that Academy Sport's prices were high? Or is it (what I think likely) that what you said actually was pure balderdash because you just wrote what you wrote because you are a hater and wrote it to slam me? Amazing how maybe you look like you lied or at least seem ignorant when confronted with prices the way they were in general for certain brands/calibers of ammo pre-frenzy and the way they are now (or were recently) at Academy Sports! By the way, that's not neckbearding/bragging - nor has been any of my posting in this thread - what it has been, is just stating fact.

What kind of answer did you expect? I think just like pornography, we know what price gouging is. If you think Glenn B was gouging just say it. I don't think he is gouging and I don't think anyone is forced to buy what he sells.
    Time to lock this thread.

And that's the problem with capitalism....in the end, everybody ends up with whatever they can afford.....

Well it's better than waiting in line with a ration card for rotting potted meat for days. If your privileged enough for the utopia to issue you one.

So me buying three boxes of certain brands of ammo at a time (the Academy Sports limit in Texarkana FOR 223, 9MM, 7.62 Russian {as they call it meaning 7.62x39 as far as I can figure} & one other caliber I think 45 if I remember right) is what you evidently seem to be saying is:

If what you said is somehow what you think I was doing, obviously without any proof that I had done so, then I must point out I believe you to be a self serving ignorant opinionated person. But note that what I just said is conditional on if that is what you thought about what I was doing.

The only ammo I bought a lot of at Academy was 380 when there was no limit on it and 45 ACP likewise. I bought that 380 for myself and bought 500 rounds. While it was high priced, that is as compared to re-pandemic, pre-looting/rioting, pre-Biden scare prices it was not so bad compared to GunBroker prices or local gun store prices which are out of this world. When I bought them, there had to be at least another several hundred to 1,000 rounds on the shelves and that was several hours after the store opened that day so many others probably bought lots of it before me. I could have easily bought all of it and did what you just said but did not. In fact, there was another guy there just staring at it, seemingly with his thumb up his arse uncertain as whether or not to take the plunge into his pocket for cash or card, so I took what I could se for my two 380 pistols and left the rest there. A normal range day with two pistols would easily be 200 rounds at a minimum and more likely 250, so I got two range day's worth or if I stretched it out maybe 2.5 days worth. Pretty much the same with the Blazer 45 ACP except there was a lot more of it than there was of the 380 when I got it and other folks were there buying what they wanted just as was I. I have not sold any of that and probably will not as both me and my son needed some. At another time, in Academy Sports, I was limited to three boxes of 45 and sold none of them either. The 45 was also selling much higher than pre-frenzy prices.

On another note, I have to admit, that while at Academy Sports last week, I bought a set of dumbbell handles with the star locking system and four (4) ten pound weight plates. They actually seem to be in shorter supply than ammo, I have been looking there for over a month and never in that time saw weights or dumbbell handles until last week. Shame on me, I took the last set of handles and the last four (4) 10 lb weights! I got them so I could help myself become more fit and thus prevented someone else from doing likewise for himself. By your standards, I guess that would make me a POS but at least if I keep at the weights I will be a more physically fit POS!
Your reading comprehension leaves a bit to be desired. If you are purchasing anything for your own personal use then I have no querall with you. It is the guys that are purchasing ammo or water or gas or toilet paper or whatever comodity is in current short supply in order to sell it to me at a profit when the reason I couldn't purchase such comodity on my own is because said jackass bought all available supplies to begin with that I peoclaim to be a Piece of Shit.

I did not attack you personally but you do me by way of saying my reading comprehension skill leaves a bit to be desired. My reading comprehension is excellent and if you reread my post you will see my reply was conditional based upon what you meant - which definitely was left open to interpretation in this thread minus any further clarification from you. So you have clarified it. By the way, while reading - one cannot read and comprehend what is not written without assuming and I suppose you know what one does when he assumes.:peace:

Why is it people advocating socialism so quickly devolve to name calling and insulting people's intelligence when they don't or can't get what they want because of lack of planning/effort?

"Your reading comprehension leaves a bit to be desired." You've used this decidedly weak insult before, try a new one.

You should see a Dr for that. Specifically a psychiatrist because they can prescribe drugs.

On a personal note, I suggest looking in a mirror for a long time as you might find some answers to your issues there.
