A buddy of mine carried one in the trunk of his Charge back in the 70's. One of those mini-hibachi cast iron open grills that appear to sell for $20. Some newspaper and a few briquets would start it. Granted we could only cook one burger at a time. But it came in handy when we were out driving to nowhere or at the lake and got hungry.

Thanks, Axxe, my Lodge, cast iron loaf pan now has three vent holes in each side.
I'm gonna build a fire in it when it cools off outside and use one of those handled, two-sided grill cages on top of it.
    I'll report back.

This is when y'all are supposed to yank my chain and tell me that Lodge no longer makes loaf pans and it was a priceless antique!

This may work! Perfect size for two burgers, or a squirrel!
    12 briquets.
I've already fixed supper, so this is just a trial run. If anything I might need to make the vent holes a little bit bigger.

That was one I did look at, but for my needs, $150 is just way too much, when I can build something much cheaper and suited exactly to my needs.

Looking at the prices is what started the idea for this thread in the first place. Plus, I like building things.

Yank your chain? This is all in the interest of science and inventing things!

I like your idea though. Pretty cool indeed!

Not an economical way to make the grill, since the loaf pan sells for about $20. But, I already had it for a decade and hadn't used it. So net gain for me!
And, if y'all tell me that I've destroyed a priceless antique, I'll just take the pan to Axxe and have him weld up the little vent holes!

My suggestion as well...small, efficient, almost indestructible and well worth the entry fee in my humble opinion. I sometimes use a camp cooking grate over mine to extend the cooking area just a bit or to create a keeping/warming area.

I've got a couple of cylinders.
Like an oxygen cylinder, but came from Brazil and not DOT.
I think I'll split one and make a few of these.
End plate material is laying around here somewhere.
