That was pretty bad. The MSM should stop calling themselves journalists and start calling themselves what they really are. Left Wing Propagandist

I saw the interview with Sawyer on Regis and Kelly this AM. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that sees this 20/20 episode as being a basket of mixed crap delivered to the public to taint law abiding folks.

In the same breath, American gun owners and criminals lumped together a the "problem that every state has with guns". Everything they brought up was a problem with a gun, not a criminal or nut job that broke laws to have a gun to commit a crime with.

I suppose we ought to start hammering our legislators to write a bill to bad expensive electronics in our homes. If they weren't in our home, criminal couldn't steal them. Crime solved.

Cars too. How many deaths by vehicle would be eliminated if we banned cars? Think about it, the only way to keep a drunk from killing people from behind the wheel would be to ban cars. Problem solved, right?

Of course they talked about how armed citizens can't really defend themselves anyway and would likely just shoot up innocent people along the way. After all, they showed the clip from security tape where a store clerk and armed robber fired 15 shots at each other at close range (in the store) and the bad guy didn't go down. I agree with them, the clerk shouldn't have had a gun. Then maybe only 1-2 shots would have been fired. At least the bad guy would have been saved from harm.

What people like that want would be great, but it's a dream. If every gun could be eliminated, then yes, no one would get killed by guns. The problem is, they can't even keep guns out of criminals hands now. The laws are there but they only hinder law abiding folks.

They just don't get that criminals are criminals because they do not obey laws; old ones or new ones. Law abiding citizens DO obey laws which is why we're not criminals, and why we're not the problem with "crime".

Maybe if we didn't have bleeding hearts and enforcement and punishment for those crimes was a real deterrent, the problem might change.

The lone sponsor for HR45 (Blair Holt registration and sale records act) is also the sponsor for a bill to make access to phone service easier, more affordable and more convenient for prison inmates. WTF?? Do we use Federal money money for SPA day in GenPop too? It's many of those inmates that are the cause of the problem he's trying to fix by registering every gun in the country and he wants to coddle them and make things nicer in Prison for them?

This is the kind of thinking that's being pushed on America and the people they want to brainwash into thinking like the rest of the illogical nuts.

no joke. They want to make it harder for us to get guns so that when Obama tries to make everyone else bow down to the terrorist's, we can't do anything about it. In short an unarmed public is not a threat to the commies that run our government, an armed public is a threat to the socialist government that they want.

I,m starting to see that black helicopter circling again so I'll shut up so they don't catch me.

I also watched the Interview this morning on Regis and Kelly. I plan on watching this episode of 20/20 at 9pm. Even though I know this is going to paint an anti-gun picture for those who choose that point of view, it's good to keep up with the nonsense being spread.

    Its on...

just saw the clip of the simulated classroom/office shootings and from what little I saw, I can imagine they gave blank guns to random people who have never touched a gun and had a guy come in out of the blue and start shooting. see who can draw on him and "survive". Not a good experiment. I'm sure the whole story is negative towards gun owners.

    we shall see...

even worse its obvious the shooter knows who has the gun as they all shoot the "teacher" then go straight for the "armed citizen", what a crock

While I think this report is slanted and they only show what supports their POV, the simulation was real. And they didn't take random people who had had never touched a gun, they used people who had just received pretty decent training from a LE agency.

Guys, I have been in these situations, many years ago, as a cop. When we transitioned to semi-autos we had to use the Safariland 070 SSIII holster, a triple retention holster. They warned us to practice draw at least 500 draws or don't go to training. Of course, you could tell who didn't train when we switched to force on force training, timed training, etc.

What Sawyer said about training is right on. We all think we will become Rambo/McClain/Riggs, etc when the SHTF, but that is not reality.

I have recently been to schools where guys were cussing and throwing away their high speed-low drag holsters because they couldn't draw in a timely fashion under stress.

I am all for your right to carry, and I don't think you should legally have to be trained to do so. However, if you think you may need your firearm in a situation like Virginia Tech, better get some training and practice thereafter.

    Be safe boys and girls.....

I am not saying that in that situation I would be able to react in the manner necessary, probably after I tactically evacuated my bowel, but I agree training is crucial

but also I still believe that scenario was a bit lopsided in who knew who had what. Not a bad try but would definately like to see them move the armed citizen around the room and do several more runs.

I was a little surprised that it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. Yes, they exploited a couple of situations to create something more than it was and the guy even fed some words to the guy from VT obviously in order to stir emotions, but overall, it could have been much worse.

I agree with tx also. I took away a feeling I didn't expect, and that was that they're right, and didn't go overboard, well close, in making their point. I DO believe there are a lot of people, some threads that get started here even are good examples, that people do not have a clear idea of what a civilian carrying a weapon is really about. That self defense isn't something a gun gives you, a gun is a tool that might be used when appropriate, but that there's more to self defense. And as civilians, we're not out to stop crime and take down the bad guy.

You can't think self defense and think gun first. There's much more to it.

The "Gun show loophole" thing still bothers the crap out of me. They said it in clear words, that no law was broken. But hell, I woudn't care if private sales were'nt allowed a gun shows anyway. For one, a gun show is a for profit business venture and private sales are taking free advantage of someone elses expense. Who cares. But I still don't think that's where illegal guns sales are a problem.....

I agree that it was very biased, and for those who can't reason or think for themselves, or are easily swayed by "public opinion" or what is made out to be "public opinion," it could be very persuasive.

I didn't think the simulations were very realistic. If they wanted to make it realistic, the shooter wouldn't know which student has the gun.

I will give them the fact that the AVERAGE person, when under stress, does not have the motor skills to coordinate a gun. That is why those who truly care will PRACTICE drawing, shooting from different positions, and above all, train to calm your nerves so you can make a decision on when to shoot and when to duck and when to hold off on pulling the trigger.

When I was a kid, I always knew where my dad's guns were, and my grandparents always kept all their guns leaned up in the corner by the front door. I also knew better not to touch them, even when nobody was around, because I would always be found out and get my @$$ beat. It is sad that we are living in the society that we have today where most kids are not taught respect of a firearm. My 5 year old girl practically cleans my guns with me, but she's also warned within an inch of her life that if she ever touches these without mama or daddy around that there will be some serious consequences to pay. She is told that if she ever finds a gun in the house, she is to come tell us. I periodically leave a pistol laying around somewhere (unloaded and without the magazine) just to see if she finds it and what she does. So far, every time she's ran across it, she has come to tell one of us.

I wish I could afford a Thunder Ranch course regularly. If you can afford to take one, or take a similar course, I suggest you do.

Doubt we will see report "Fortunately I Was Able To Buy A Gun Quickly Or I Would Be Dead", highlighting stories from folks who bought guns recently to protect themselves...

No question that there are merits for training ~ especially in stressful situations. I think 20/20 was certainly right on that issue.

I don't think I heard anything about training for situational awareness on the show. To me SI is kin to paranoia but in a good way. I think this may be just as important (maybe more) than knowing how to work a gun.

20/20 manipulated the 'experiment' in a way to get their results but what if the 'experimentee' was not located front row center, what if they could see the assaulter coming, what if they were not wearing a ton of clothes, what if they had a way of escape, what if they had more cover? Situational Awareness could have made a huge difference > IMO.

The rest of the story is BS scare tactics ~ just as arvetus says ~ I grew up learning respect for guns not being scared of them. My dad actually built a case in a room for the guns that was my bedroom ~ I KNEW not to touch them without permission ~ so did everyone in the family. It boils down to proper parenting and learning respect for authority as a youngster.

The whole time I was screaming "Where is the common sense?" while watching the show.
