YEP. And that's the reason to keep the vast majority of your funds OUT of Mexico.
OR to retire to Panama or Costa Rica.
(My lady & I have considered both places, as well as Columbia.)

Fwiw, I know of NUMEROUS retired Mike Papas/wives, who have retired to CR.
(CR has an active RECRUITING PROGRAM for US military retirees & in particular for MPs.)
