    When did this happen? Why?

    Crappy schooling?
    Crappy parenting?
    Both?

I see things nowadays that weren't problems just not long ago. A few examples:

    "I borrowed him $20."

" Fixed the breaks on my truck." ( Spell check ,or ignorance?" Funny, you never see "Brake dancing."

" For sell...." " I saled my truck."

Just a few to get started.

Soooo, y'alls pet peeves, theories, or whatever. I'm sure those that have been properly educated, will be able to point out many. I fear it's only getting worse as we go.

As mentioned, relying on technology for social interaction is definitely a huge factor. We have had a few threads about this already but I don’t mind repeating myself. Technology is a huge problem. Is it the whole problem? No. It’s just helped us get used to being lazy. From our grammar to our problem solving.

Music, movies, trends, tide pods lol, also play a factor.

People used to communicate verbally. Now there is a lot more communication via the text. You’re gonna notice it more.

Not necessarily, I learned the English language by mainly reading printed words. We didn't have verbal pop quizzes. Being able to properly form English sentences verbally should be easy to convert to print.

Misspellings don't show up verbally. I rely on Spellchecker at times, because I know I am misspelling a word, but rather than re- typing, I look for the correct spelling, ( yet another modern convienience that has the capacity for good or evil), I see posts all the time blaming Spellchecker for obvious user errors.

So, we agree ( I think), it's just not on the source.

Hell I was 18 before someone told me it’s a sandwich, not a Sammich?
I used to go the the car WARSH.
Mom would clean the winders in the kitchen.
There’s more. I was and still am piss ignorant but my wife has slowly corrected some of my back woods, uneducated ways.
I no longer put dirty clothes in a WARSHER.

I have to axe for all these prescriptions that I can spell, but have never heard spoken verbally. By the 3rd or 4th grade you should have learned to spell washer, whether hardware or clothes, enunciation, or ACCENT can be easily overlooked, and should not show up in the printed word, ( unless intentionally).

Stuff like this doesn’t bother me. I’m not a grammar nazi. The only reason I want kids getting into the work force to use good grammar/articulation is communication at work.

Nike has the answer for work: "Just do it."

BTW: The problem is twofold, "For sell." Is incorrect both verbally and incorrectly, and exhibits a level of incompetence that doesn't inspire confidence in me as an employer.
