I had a friend in California whose mom did the same thing, well almost. When his parents divorced she got the house but she bought the house across the street and moved but kept the old one. She wanted to "always be able to look at it" and make sure "he" the husband could never have. Also we are talking about $3.5 million plus houses in Malibu here. Some people have more money than they can find things to do with it.

That's got to tell you something about the guy as well. Some people just aren't built for any kind of relationship with other humans. I'm sure these two were of that sort.

As an adult, I've never understood the logic behind holding a grudge against someone, especially over a broad. Staying pissed off in perpetuity makes no sense and really just exposes one's weakness to be used against themselves.
