Anyone here have one they recommend? 15-20'?

We're pulling the oak tree out of our yard and I'd like to put in a flag pole with a solar light on top...

Everything I see is $75-150 and multi-piece aluminum. Need something that will withstand DFW wind. Most reviews say they're sturdy, but need some first-hand NTX experience.

Not ready to spend $500-1000 for a 1-pc steel commercial pole.

How fancy are you trying to get? You can guy a piece of either steel or aluminum pipe that's 20 ft long or so and just plant it in the ground in some concrete. Cover the top somehow, use some stainless steel eyebolts to run the flag line through and you're done. For the solar lights, they sell clamp on kits made for a regular pole (pipe).

The pole in the ground is the route I went. I've spent many nights in the storm shelter out back while the flag pole stood just fine out front.

    Got a link?
I see quite a few on my trip from Denton to Abilene on 380 And 180.
Of course, they do pull the flag down in high winds.
Those solar lights at the top look like a good deal.

just a bunch on amazon. Come to think of it, theres a guy in a neighboring community with a tall one in his backyard. maybe i knock on his door...
Budget is around $100 give or take.
If it failed... I'd probably end up ponying up.

I thought you recently said you were leaving Texas?
nah, I was trolling for April Fools. Some dude did get pissed though.
An aluminum pole should be able to withstand normal Texas winds.

you think? I think they are all a little thin, but being sectioned I guessing helps with rigidity. I have read of some people slipping fencing pipe inside for reinforcement.

I would try to take the flag down during harsh storms, but I would hate not be able to take it down and get hit with a 60mph wind.

been looking at a couple DIY/how-to links

the standard parts are all readily available (truck cap/halyard/cleat) and thevsolar light just slips between the truck cap and ball

one idea is to get 2 or 3 sections of pipe that slip into each other and weld with 12" overlaps. Good way to get a stepped/tapered look.

Just remember if you don't get a perfect bead on the weld, or don't grind it smooth, then you'll end up with paint that chips and starts leaving rust streaks down the pipe.

Planting a solid pipe keeps the maintenance down long term.

I van barely weld.... that said, I am not concerned with penetration.. i can weld it fat and grind it down I guess.

a solid piece would be tons easier

If you have a trailer, you should be able to find steel pipe or drill stem for around $1.50 - $2.00 per foot.

Keep in mind that a 20' pole stuck 3' in the ground is a 17' flag pole, but that should give you an idea on price for the pipe. Then you just need the hardware or eyebolts, plus light if needed.

I'm running two 15 foot telescopic aluminum poles and they have handled our strong winds here on the coast for 6 years. Lifetime warranty and rated for 125 mph wind iirc.....I bring them in every night to avoid thieves and vandals...

About $225.00 each. When I go to the shop tomorrow I'll get the manufacturer.....

They have 20 ft and 25 ft also...
