I went to get Air for my car last night and the station tried to charge me $.75. The sign on the Air machine said "go inside for free air" so i went inside and there was Indian guy ... well . . . lets just say we had some words.

In Texas do you have to pay for Air/Water at gas stations? In cali its always free you just have to go in and ask for it. that is the Law

    Cali law states
    Service stations.
    (1) Existing law requires every service station in this state to
provide, during operating hours, water, compressed air, and a gauge
for measuring air pressure, to the public for use in servicing any
passenger or commercial vehicle, as defined.

It's not the law here, and most places have

    1) gotten rid of their air and water facilities

    2) started charging for them

The days of "service" (of any kind) are waning . . .

    DFW area.....Wylie.
Most of the ones I see these days take quarters.

California is a liberal state and I don't see why any station owner should have to install and maintain air/water equipment for the general publics free use. These guys put up capital to go into business.....why do they have to offer anything for free?

The market will dictate business models.

To me, it's another example of 'I need a handout, give me something for free'. I keep a $15 air compressor in my vehicle, I got it at walmart. I'm not knocking you, just making a general comment about California's anti-business laws.

I don't see where that says, "provide free of charge".

Most gas stations do charge around .50 to .75 cents for air/water. There is a gas station close to me that offers it for free if I ask the guy. Otherwise the only free air/water is at QT gas stations but I always have bad luck with them because the air chuck is usually messed up and will deflate my tire instead of airing it up. That's why I usually just use the air compressor at home or my 12V air compressor that plugs into the cig lighter while on the road.

Go to the auto section of walmart. They have a small air compressor that plugs into the cig lighter outlet for about $10. Then you will never have to worry about it again.

Uh...try cali Gun Talk and see what they think. ;)

    This is Texas dude!

***slightly resenting somehow inferring that cali is better than Texas ***

Of course texas is better. thats why i moved here. but Cali has some really good parts too it that texas just does not have. i would give it a 70/30 split in favor of texas.

Alright fella's, he broke. We can take him off the hitlist now.......somebody call Bubba.

    Are you sure?

Bubba is getting a little bored I suspect

Anyhow, it's 50/50 in my area. A lot of convence stores or gas stations have free water and air. While stores like Wal-mart and HEB will charge for air...not sure on water.

What happened to this thread?? I replied to it early on but now, the whole thing looks new. Did someone do or say something to get the thread whacked?

Or maybe it's a duplicate?? Or I'm nuts...

    actually,
the gas station doesnt own that air/water station, thats a seperate company. A buddy of mine started the business in this area of texas, he was a multi-millionaire before he sold the company a few years ago.
me and another buddy used to go empty the quarters out of those things, it wasnt unusual to be riding around w/ $50k in quarters in the back of a one ton truck bed...
