While celebrating today I got the idea of getting a replica revolutionary war replica pistol and/or rifle to shoot on the 4th each year. I know nothing about black powder firearms. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Gunz are icky.
Pedersoli makes some nice muskets.
Their Brown Bess is pretty much the gold standard for reenacting.
Its really the only currently produced Bess thats any good. It isn’t 100% historical correct but its what everybody uses.
Their Charleville line is good to go as well.
Expensive tho.
Avoid the Indian produced guns. Utter crap.
Once upon a time Miruko of Japan made a Bess that is a quality piece. Sometimes they pop up on the used market.
Expect to $1500-$2000 for new Pedersoli. Sometimes Cabelas has the Bess on sale for $1100 or so.
Don’t forget the bayonet. Thats another $150-$200 for a quality one.
Again, avoid the Indian made crap.

100% historically correct would be nice but not necessary at this point. I will keep searching and let you guys know what I get. Keep the info coming.

Oddly enough these replica flintlock muskets rarely show up on the used market. I guess people really like keeping them. I dunno.
Remember they’re smoothbore so accuracy is poor. As in awful poor. Think minute of house at 40yds.

Oh and this as well.

No experience with these guys.

I bet @Mad John has some insight here
Those are non firing replicas. I dont know if that was your intention to link to non firing models or not.

Gunz are icky.

This would be the “correct” gun for Rev War.
