Been a shitty year, so I'm treating myself to a new 22 pistol. Which do you guys prefer?

Buckmark or the Ruger Mark III (or whatever it is now)?

    Fire away!

I did a poll on this and it was a 50/50 split. Still haven't bought one :(

I say Buck Mark because the Ruger is a pain in the anus to take apart and put back together. You need a mallet and punch and a dental pick and a block of wood to bash it apart and then reach inside and move stuff around into the right position to make it go back together.

If I could find a Buck Mark with a threaded barrel I'd shoot my Ruger until it got all gunked up and stopped working and throw it away and replace with the Browning.

Hmm.....they sell aftermarket threaded barrels for the Buck Mark. Let me know when you get it so I can dumpster dive at your place for a 22/45.... I can deal with the pain of cleaning it.

Well, I like my 22/45 MarkIII so much, I ordered its cousin, the 10/22 Charger :) I've only broken down the MkIII twice, so I'm still watching the YouTube while I do it; but it's really pretty simple after you have done it twice...or three or four times ;)

You really can't go wrong with either. I have owned a buckmark camper and currently own a MKIII and a 22/45. I just recently sold one of my MKIII's cause it didn't get any trigger time. They are all plenty accurate regardless of barrel length.

Lately I have had my eye on the buckmark contours because I don't mind a little weight and prefer bull type barrels. Take down is a non factor for me. I don't think I have stripped any of mine down more than once in the last several years.

The big plus for the ruger is the aftermarket support for it. Although if the buckmarks were all about 50 bucks less I bet they would easily surpass ruger in total sales of similar pistols.

Thanks for the input. Buck Mark it is.

If you follow thru on this, you need to fully and carefully read the stickies in the Buck Mark subforum at Rimfire Central: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=329

If you change you mind and go with Ruger, there is a forum for that also.

Lots of good info on that site.

Edited to add: I did the Heggis trigger spring flip on mine and it worked like a champ. It lightened the pull and I have had no UDs at all:

I have both. When I go to the range it is with the Ruger.

Maybe the heft or whatever, the Buckmark sits in the safe while the Ruger gets to play.

    Be well.

Cleaning a ruger ain't that bad.
And, it only needs it every 5 years or so.
