On it's face, it seems like a good cause. Here's my issue: I don't trust big tech to figure out what a "violation" looks like. They will censor folks for posting truth. FB and Twitter will addd snarky comments about information they don't like, saying it's "not been fact checked" or some such nonsense. I left those platforms before they got really bad, so it's a distant memory now.

But I know I don't need them digging into my stuff and deciding what is "good" and "bad".

PS - I do not own any Apple products.

    Can’t read without an account.

My guess is that this is cloud related?

Hmmm, I recall getting an "I'll do it later" choice, but yes they want folks to subscribe (and I have no account).

Yes, it is related to iCloud. They are going to scan the images of every single US user (for evidence of "child abuse", which equals kiddie porn).

But video: now that is safe, for now.

Wonder if they'll see a large scale reduction in image count and file size?

I’ve never trusted and never uploaded anything to the cloud. When the phone gets full I just delete stuff.

I couldn't read the Epoch Times article due to the paywall, but I found this one.
    https://www.theguardian.com/technol...scan-us-iphones-for-child-sexual-abuse-images

According to The Guardian, the scan takes place on your iPhone before images are uploaded to the iCloud, but the scan is a comparison against a database of images.

There's an interesting point in the article that the algorithm matches a "fingerprint" of the image. So it's mathematically possible (and has been done) to create "innocent" images with an "offending" fingerprint.

Okay - so no one has brought up the big elephant in the room - for the server to be able to scan and "match" photos - that means Apple has a server full of kiddie porn to check against. How is this allowed to be? Because they claim its for the good of the people? Someone somewhere has to be manually inputting images, which means they have access to the images. If one person does, multiple people could or do. So by admitting to this massive breach of privacy, they're admitting they've got servers full of kiddie porn as well.

I haven't owned a personal phone in 15 years since I have to carry a corporate phone 24x7. NO privacy is expected by corporate or Apple so no big surprise. I believe some ISPs do something similar.

Isn’t necessarily Apple’s cache of kiddie porn. US Govt has had troves of it digitally going back close to two decades now.
