That hasn't been a problem for 25 years. The 1998 legislation established what are known, internally, as "The Seven Deadly Sins.". These are things that get IRS employees fired instantly with only a handful of exceptions. At the top of that list is not paying your own taxes. Since then, the IRS has fired thousands of employees who didn't fully pay their taxes by April 15.

IRS employees may not have an extension to file or a payment plan. If you're an IRS employee and your spouse did something stupid during the year, you make your filing status "Married, Filing Separately" and make damn sure you file and fully pay on time.
