I've decided I want a Sig 226 or Sig 229. Which one?

    9mm for sure.

I think I'm cool with either a 226 or 229 but what leaves me scratching my head is the dozens of unique versions of model exist.

I like the more compact 229. Shoot both .40 and .357 Sig. Quality handgun that is very accurate. Have considered getting a 9mm barrel for it as well.

I have a 226 Extreme in 9mm that I picked up off a member here.

At least I think he's a member here . . . still. Haven't seen him post in a long while.

He also was a certified SIG armorer and worked over the Short Reset Trigger real well. It is an awesome firearm made better.

That being said, I am planning (when funds allow) on picking up a 229 in .40 S&W for when I eventually get my CHL.

Whatever you decide on, you cannot go wrong with a SIG.

I wouldn't mind taking them for a spin.
For some reason I have not been exposed to Sigs very much.
I actually think I've only shot one, but it didn't get me too excited.
I'm actually wanting to increase my 9mm collection. I have too much ammo, but not enough choices of guns.

Both are great guns. The 229 is about an inch shorter if you want to conceal it, it might make a difference. The 229 was my duty carry gun for many years. I still have it and it has never had any issues. I can't keep track of all the different versions so I can't help you there. If you don't mind a used one, check out Recoil Gunworks, they have some police trade ins with night sights and DA/SA guns for a good price.

I got a P229 and a P226 from GTs really cheap a couple of years ago. Both are .40s but still very fun to shoot. I am considering a old P228 or P229 in 9mm for my collection but haven't yet.

Either one would be a great choice.

If you're only getting one: I'd go for a 229. If you know you'll get another sig for certain, i'd still get a 229 first and then a 226 second.

I have both as well. P226 is an MK25 that I got a great deal on used from a guy that used it in a police academy. My P229 is in 40S&W and it was made in 1994. Got it used from a guy that got it in a trade deal. It turned out to be a CPO gun, Called Sig and they told me the history on it. I ended up sending it in to them again to go through it and they replaced the slide for no charge since it had a pin stuck in it. I threw some G10 grips on it and it is perfect. Not sure what your intended use is, but I would go with the P229, if I had to pick one.

I am fairly new to the Sig P series guns and there are tons of models. If I had none and was looking at getting one I think I would look at the Legion series. Not for the whole marketing club aspect of it, but you get great upgrades that I think would be nice out of the box.

If money is a main factor look for a Sig CPO pistol, like my P229 was. Like I said it was made in 1994 and my MK25 was made in 2016 and the P229 trigger is WAY more smooth!

I've had several of each, but consistently prefer the 228/229 as it's just less chunky for my smaller hands. The 229 gives up a couple of rounds but nothing in accuracy. So it's down to which fits your hand and use better.

I have both base models, I prefer my 226. Also, if it makes a difference to you, SilencerCo makes threaded barrels for the 226 w/ standard RH threading for about $120, finding a RH thread barrel for the 229 is going to be a > $200 endeavor. Otherwise, you can get Sig barrels for both with LH metric threading for ~$150.

    I'm weird and say P226 is for 9mm and P229 is for 40/357sig .... though a P239 in 357sig would be tits
