I can't help but wonder why the cops wasted so much resources on somebody that (based on the method of death) obviously needed killing, and wasn't reported as missing in the area. Are they done, or are they going to go after the killer?

I suspect they'll at least make a token effort at going after the killer. It's obviously going to be a parent or relative of one of his victims so they won't have to look hard. The question is, will they look hard, or will they just go through the motions and call it "unsolved'?
