John Madden was one of the very best, both at coaching and at broadcasting. He made life fun.

I remember him talking about the day it was announced that he was the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders. By coincidence, it was the same day Vince Lombardi died, so the announcement in the sports section of the newspaper was a tiny little box while the rest of the pages were dedications to Lombardi.

From the era of when I enjoyed watching football with my dad. It was always a thrill when Pat Summerall and John were commentating on a game.

Loved playing the game named after him. Back when he was on the cover still.
