+1 as do the permit holders. Why on God's green earth would you publicly say "Hey, I've got guns. Here's my address."

Worse yet, these idiots are identifying residences that do NOT have firearms. It's like a shopping list for criminals!

I read the article. NY gun owners were given a period of time to remove their personally identifying data from any records that might be made public. Apparently the judge ruled that anyone who still had their data on the publicly available list must not mind their data being made public.

I'm not sure I buy that line of reasoning.

And what if some people hadn't heard that they could remove their personal data?

What if this information leaks? It's not impossible, seeing all the past episodes of hacking and such. I'm sure that among that data is some out-of-date information, like possibly someone saying f##k New York and moved away. If their address is still in the data base and that somehow gets released, now there could be a non-gunowner living at that address but they've been put in harm's way.

As for any "line of reasoning," libiturds don't know the meaning of the word reasoning...or reason...or constitutional rights......etc

I lived in NY for awhile and had to get a concealed carry permit for the guns I already owned. It took 9 months. First there was a 20 page form to fill out, listing all your relatives, everywhere you ever lived, etc. Then you had to sign forms to allow mental health administrators for every place you lived release any records to the state. Same for any criminal records. Then you had to list 3 non-family members who live in NY and they were sent questionaires about you (which had to be notorized). You also had to give 3 sets of fingerprints. Processing time was about 6 months, then you had to spend 3 months calling the local judge DAILY to try to get it signed. (That, of course, moved much quicker if you happened to be one of his campaign contributors.)

Every handgun required a permit, either "permit to possess" which only allowed you to buy a gun and keep it at the house, or "permit to carry concealed" which let you take it out and shoot it. There were no public ranges, so you had to join a range to be able to practice. Oh, and forget about teaching your kid to shoot a pistol! No permit, no shooting!! (Of course, the guys on the range ignored that.)

So with all that, why on earth would they need to advertise your ownership? Because while most of NY state is actually populated by fairly normal people, there is a large contingent of absolute leftist fanatics who cannot tolerate anyone or anything that doesn't fall under the socialist control they dream of. Sadly, they control enough of the schools and media that the "normal" folks have grown up thinking that without control the state would collapse in an apocalyptic mayhem.

A pair of cops told me that they needed tight gun registration so that "cops wouldn't get shot down in the streets like they are in Texas". I asked them why on earth they thought that. They said that Houston was always advertising for cops, so they must have a hard time finding people willing to get shot. Their minds have been warped and they just don't know any better.
