If I'm reading the 46.03 law correctly, it is legal to have a handgun in your vehicle as long as no school activities take place in said parking lot? The reason for the question is my daughter works for a K thru 5th grade school. Maybe TXI can straighten me out on this. As I read the law, it is a little confusing to me but I'm no lawyer.
This law makes it unlawful to possess or go with one of those weapons to many locations. For purposes of this section, the penal code defines premises as “a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.”
The prohibited locations are;
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution;
