I saw this knife in a local store and just could not leave without it. The owners said they buy directly from the knife maker, a Veteran in Coleman County. I figure he is buying blanks and just building the handles, but who knows for sure. It’s a solid well built knife and its just gorgeous
Its about 9 inches from end to end

That's awesome. What did it cost if you don't mind my asking?

Post your knives. I think I started one of these pre crash and can't find the old one.

Got this today as a gift from a good friend.

My first knife purchase at 16 with my own money.

First day on my first job I was threatened by a coworker. I carried a steak knife home (I walked to work) then purchased this from the tip out I got the next day from a grocery store in the same shopping center.

I grew on him I guess and he was't pissed after a week or two.

As a retired MD who once practiced Surgery, I believe most "hunting knives" to be much too large. We aren't hunting Hippos, Rhinos, or Pachyderms ! leVieux
It's nice to have a large blade to crack a pelvis or open ribs, but to your point yes that's why there are also "skinning" knives.

My comment was just "in general".

I once had a Texan Friend who bought an 8" blade Buck sheath knife to go quail hunting.

I frequently see young friends buying very large knives for whitetail hunts. I also encounter many who don't know how to properly hold a knife.

I would suggest carrying a small hand axe and bone saw, with a smaller "hunting" knife.

When afield, I keep tools in my truck or Jeep, including an axe and a machete. My "carry knives" are the smallest Jimmy Lile sheath knife, a 2.75" Gerber pocketknife and a fair size SpyderCo folder.

    "Each to his own. . . . . "

I'm not really a hatchet/small axe guy... I like to split wood with a knife, too. If you want to carry another tool for hunting and butchering, a limb lopper works great on bones as well as being a nice bush tool.

FROM TOP: "Fightng Knife" K-Bar / USMC

Hunting Knife, Texas size Jimmy Lile

Hunting Knife, folder SpyderCo / Dr. Dave Newton (custom run)

    Pocket Knife, everyday Gerber

    Pocket Knife, everyday Gerber

Church Knife Boker / A G Russell Co.

Side: The only pocket-size sharpener I've ever found which really works. Wristwatch for size comparison.

All of these knives are over 10 years old. Two are NIB from safe. Others are in near constant use. Please note NO scratches on blades of any.

I am not a knife collector, yet have over 100, all / each for a specific use or purpose, all cared-for properly.

Picked this up from a local knife maker. While the handle is very colorful, he called it the Mardi gras, holding it is a whole different experience. Perfection is what you get with this maker. The sheath was replaced because it didn't meet his approval. I will have to look at getting more of his work.
