Sitting in my backyard enjoying my third cup of coffee( yes, I get up early) and listening to a chorus of Canis Latrans.( coyotes)

Sounds like a couple of separate packs are telling each other to piss off and stay away.
I really like coyotes( long time members here will remember that I had 2 half yotes for 13 and 14 years)

The sound of their singing puts me in a good mood( wolves as well)

That being said, if they come where I can see them from the fenced part of my yard, I will shoot them in the face.( but I will not go looking for them;) )

I have a Red Heeler and a Great Pyrenees that howl along with, or in response to, the yotes. Some nights we have quite a chorus going.

I love listening to them, although the Heeler’s high pitched wail sounds very mournful and sad. I wish I knew what message was being communicated.

The vast majority of a coyote’s diet in the wild are rabbits, rodents and cartoon.
They will take fawns, and occasionally adult deer.
Feral pigs are a far greater devastator of native wildlife than coyotes could ever dream of.

Won't kill a copperhead, but will shoot a coyote.

I was mowing my lower pasture one day, and the field mice would run out ahead of the tractor into the taller grass and brush not yet mowed.

Pretty soon a female coyote showed up and began snacking on the field mice when they left cover. A little later, her mate showed up and did the same. Not long after that, their 3 pups showed up so mom and dad could teach them how to do it.

It was interesting to watch and I didn’t bother them. They were hungry enough to not have much fear of the tractor and mower.

Had a couple of coyotes following me around at the farm Saturday. I guess they were seeing if I was stirring up any rabbits or rats. Pretty cool how they can dissapear in a few steps.

If they are following me there is a real good chance( wholly dependent on their behavior and age) that they will quit being entertaining and move into the shoot them in the face category.

Won't kill a copperhead, but will shoot a coyote.
Coyotes ( depending on situation, near my dogs, chickens being one) might need to be shot in the face.
I can relocate a venomous snake and odds are in favor of never seeing it again.
If I see one of the rattlers with painted rattles again, it gets the axe( or machete, or shovel.....)

They were not threatening at all. Probably never got closer than 100 yds. Plus, if they eat the rats and mice, there won't be any for the damned snakes.

When I was a ranger, I would get followed quite a bit. A lot closer than 100yards, but then I had them trained to run to the sound of gunfire( gun shots meant dead pigs or deer guts) so they got a pass.

The two that were flanking me while at a friends property in east Texas came very very close to getting a mag dump.
I ended up growling at them and they figured out I was not prey.
