City Looks to Twitter for Answer to Gun Problem | NBC Chicago

The City of Chicago is asking residents with ideas on how to get illegal guns off the streets to share their thoughts — in 140 characters or fewer on Twitter.

The initiative is part of Chicago Ideas Week, an annual forum for innovators, artists, scientists and others to share ideas and inspire action.

Those who think they know how to cut off the flow of illegal guns into Chicago are being asked to tweet them with the hashtag (hash)whatifchicago.

The best submitted ideas will be debated at an Oct. 11 panel discussion.

Chicago's social media director, Kevin Hauswirth, says the effort is a great example of "the potential power that social media offers city government."

According to police, 382 people have been killed so far this year, many by guns, as of the middle of September.

Offer 200 bucks a gun and anyone that shows up, take them out back, put a bullet in their head and wait for the next thug.

Obviously Chicago (and Mexico for that matter) can only be safe if the govt takes all the guns away from everyone else in the rest of the country.

How about you let all the good citizens have guns and let them take care of the problem. WTFChicago#

That's my exact response. I lived in Illinois 57 years not far from Chicago, it's a war zone as was my city. "Escape from New York" that old movie is about what it is like. I took a bus out east to pick up a car 5 years ago and stopped at the greyhound and south side on the way. It's chaos there and now even worse. Arm everone that is not a felon and let them protect themselves. It might take 5 years but things would get better. Re enact the death penality and use it often. One felony should be 3 years time. Right now teens have to have 3 before prison time thanks to obama when he was a senator. The penality for a firearm by a felon is back to prison but again obama wanted 5 days jail time for them. Arming law abiding south side citizens is the only cure. that an allowing conceal carry statewide. Forget classes and tests and licensing, just plain allow it and stand back and let the "old west" cure the problems.

Chicago is the lowest form of scum. No wonder Obama claims it as his hometown. 382 killed in 9 months alone? Odd how the places that have the strictest gun control also have the highest violent crime rates.

I was born in Chicago and spent my first 17 years there. It's still the same septic tank that I remember! It's also filled with graft, corruption and patronage. Remember that when you hear Obama speak. His career came right out of that muck and he's one of their puppets.

    The comments are a trip

Yeah... it's never a good idea for the anti-freedom crowd to allow comments. I've never seen an anti-gun anything online where pro-gunner posters didn't outnumber the anti-gun posters about ten to one when allowed. Gun control organizations NEVER allow discussion; and when they use social media pages like Facebook they drop the ban on anyone they even suspect is pro-gun.

If you ever need a quick laugh, befriend a Facebook gun control page then ask a harmless question like, "What is the rate of crime for people who have a CHL?" You'll be banned in less than an hour, and I'm not exaggerating.

They can't win their arguments and they know it so they have to try to suppress the truth. The problem is this is the internet and it just doesn't work that way. It's not like Google only links to anti-gun webpages. Anyone who thinks they can suppress the truth on the internet is laughably out of touch with reality. It doesn't even work in Commie countries.

Whoever came up with this idea clearly didn't do their homework. Now Chi-town leaders actually have to listen to their opposition instead of pretending it doesn't exist.
