And that's why .50 BMG is still king.

.338 LM is cute when it tries though.

    Helotes!
Heard about that article a few days ago, but so far it's been only released by a single source (others have only quoted the Globe and Mail newspaper).

I have had a few Canucks "confirm" it, but am waiting for official confirmation other than the "military source requested anonymity" that needs to be shot for publicly releasing sensitive information.

Hope it's true, but a 3,540m shot is almost a thousand meters farther than the previous record is mind-boggling (that's 11614.17 feet, or 2.1996534090909 miles! :asniper:).

    Cheers! M2

You have to remember that with a .50 you don't actually have to hit them. Just getting close will do the job.

There are 1,609 meters in a mile. Took the guy out at a distance of over 2 miles, now that's a sniper!

Hope it's true, but a 3,450m shot is almost a thousand meters farther than the previous record is mind-boggling (that's 11319 feet, or 2.14 miles! :asniper:).

Article states 3540m so 11,614' or 2.199 miles.

    But why quibble :p

The McMillan TAC-50 is a hell of a rifle and the shooter a hell of a shot but at some point we have to ask ourselves is a 10 second flight time a controlled shot or a hit in a series of lobs that made contact. At what point is it better to call in a strike or artillery or walk in rifle fire.
