Texas State Guard isn't truly a "Militia" in the strict sense of the word, their focus is primarily disaster relief and shelter management. I was a member of the 436th ASG for 5 years and the closest I ever got to a weapon was helping the 2nd of the 149th Army National Guard tactical helo squadron inventory their M-16s. That, and a heavy dose of required FEMA courses soured me on the TSG.Texas State Guard? (not Texas National Guard)

Exactly right. The membership of the TSG unit I was in was approximately 50% older veterans and 50% young people who wanted to serve their country (state) without having to go to war. The veterans, to a man/woman were great people and I made many good friends, so I owe that to the "Guard". Unfortunately the same can't be said for the non-veterans, many of whom were clueless asshats.....and don't get me started on the non-veteran officers!Yuck. I looked into it but was afraid it would be mostly noise and not signal.
