Found this in a thread on the Forum, could not find info in the .PDF file.

"Battery life is very much dependant on usage... Arlo's spec call for 4 mins a day at optimized video setting ( middle quality I think ), I run at high quality.

That sounds like not much, but in reality it is plenty. I have the cameras each set to record different amount of times based on how long I want it to record for that particular camera. My max is 30 seconds.

I have found that you get what you pay for. I bought a 700 line 8 camera set up one tera HDD. All the remote bells and whistles are there but quality is just not there. IMO

I posted this in the other thread, I got Swann. Really am happy with the quality and how they haven't given me any real issues. The only thing that kinda gets me is my phones don't always link up, not sure as to why.

TXI, will you give us a rundown on the Arlo system, now after 9 months. How many times have you changed batteries, issues, etc etc...also, can you elaborate on the local storage option you mentioned? The website doesn't make its local recording capabilities clear - they focus on the service plans. Thanks!

I use Hikvision and Ubiquiti cameras with BlueIris as the DVR software. Super customizable
Did you bought the Hikvision camera online? Are they US warranty? I've seen lot of them sale online but most doesn't have US warranty.

I bought mine through a US re-seller on Amazon and it's from Hikvision USA-- but to answer your question there there is a repair department in California

Has anyone found a viewer compatible with Linux?
If you use BlueIris, there is a java based client and a webclient.

FIL is buying me a system for my birthday in a coupla months.
Wants to get it from Costco.
I don't expect top o' the line, but it won't cost me a penny.
I have a concern about wireless systems.
I'm in the sticks, WiFi through sattelite.
Will a wireless system affect my very limited bandwidth?

Wireless is always janky IMO... But as long as they have a good connection to the DVR you should be fine... Watching the video over the internet through a slow internet connection will be iffy.

Wireless to connect the cameras to the base is a function of distance and obstacles. That has no impact on your Internet, as it's all local traffic on your premises.
If the system offers cloud storage and remote viewing, uploading the alerts and associated video can and will impact your Internet - both in terms of total throughput and data limits.
