My CHL class was small (half dozen, or so) and with a very good, professional instructor. He covered the required material (nothing more & no extraneous topics); went to the range, conducted the shooting portion and we were done. The class was what I anticipated with no unmet expectations or "sales pitches" of any sort. If the instructor was asked for an opinion, he gave a short, candid response without trying to impose his views on anyone.
Several months later, I got an email from TSRA (I'm a member) advertising the location of "a seminar" they were putting on, in conjunction with TLS. It was close by, so I RSVP'd that I'd attend. It was mildly educational and informative but mostly (50% or more) was a gigantic adv for TLS. Probably not unlike some of you experienced in your CHL classes - but this "seminar" had multiple TLS speakers. I did win a travel coffee cup giveaway from them - I didn't signup with them. I think they rely on folks signing up as a spur of the moment-type thing. They did, however, get me thinking about it and since I travel to other states (& a veterans discount is offered), I decided on Patriot Legal Protection LLC.

Like any insurance coverage-type thing, I've asked myself many times: what are the odds I'll EVER even need to avail myself of their service? In my judgement, pretty low. But then again, you don't ask to be 'home invaded' and certainly Texas has put some strong laws in place over the last many years that are designed to help the home owner (castle doctrine & stand your ground laws) but I also don't know or have ready access to a knowledgeable defense lawyer in most places I travel - so that makes it worth some amount of money (expense) to me.

Well during my LTC class there was a TLS member scarring the kids into signing up.

In my classes I've noticed middle-aged folks and seniors sign up more than young folks. Makes sense to me because they more than likely have more to lose.
