Because if there was ever a rifle to bash a head in with the butt the Garand rifle would rain supreme.

I used to tell people that wanted to actually shoot their Garand to buy a .308 barrel for it, but they're harder to obtain than M2 Ball nowadays! If you can find a .308 barrel, it'll pay for itself in 500-1,000 rounds, even at today's ammo prices.

Even reloading, you'll find it hard to get anywhere near $0.50/rd with the price of components these days. Assuming you can even find components (primers especially)

Wish I had one. Sold mine in the early 90’s for $550.00. Was a real shooter too. I really piss myself off sometimes. I think it was Patton that said it was the greatest infantry weapon ever devised.
