Gas Piston Retrofits
I have heard mostly negative feedback on "retrofit" kits.... I.E. The retrofit kit may cause irregular wear in the upper receiver, where the gas tube normally resides.
I chose to go with a LWRC, which was designed around a gas piston receiver.
My opinion is that; the gas piston is superior. I normally shoot suppressed, and suppressors love to send residue and fouling into areas of your AR you didn’t even know existed. The gas piston system pretty much eliminates all of the fouling. The gas piston also eliminates most of the heat in your receiver as well. There may be more advantages to the gas piston system.
However my Colt Ar’s are all gas tube, and I wouldn’t trade them in or retrofit just so I can utilitize the gas piston system.
