Loaded/unloaded doesn't matter from the magazine's perspective. As far as wear goes, it's using them that wears them out, not sitting on a shelf. I prefer loaded myself. An empty magazine does no good when it is needed.

    Loaded.
Firearms owners are the worst boaters in history... You would think that our lakes are littered with AR's and AK's but surprisingly they are not...

I inherited some loaded 7-round 1911 G.I. mags from my father's estate. They had sat in a closet for more than 30 years. The ammo was tarnished but not corroded. The mag bodies were as new, no rust or grime.

Shot all and not a single failure of any kind.

Think I'll let those springs rest a bit before I give them another go.

I keep a loaded mag in the pistols, and a spare loaded for each. Rifles, I don't keep the mags loaded, but not for any particular reason.

The only four mags. I have that are not loaded, are for both new rifle I recently acquired and have not shot yet. Otherwise all my firearms And the magazines are loaded. As the man once said, "An unloaded firearm is just a very expensive paperweight."
