Man I really wanted to like Crenshaw, and initially was willing to overlook some differences.

But jeepers…those differences make all the, um, difference. He’s a swamp creature.

    Honest question, as I didn’t serve…

When people just go thru the motions and say “thank you for your service” without even knowing you or what you did, is the sentiment really appreciated?

I hear people saying this all the time but to me it often just sounds cringey…

I cant stand it to be honest. I didnt do anything at all. Quite frankly I flushed four years of my life down the drain to start my career 4 years behind everyone else my age. The age of information has lifted the veil of what this country really is and everytime someone says thanks for your service thats what I think about

I get it. People just want to go with the flow and say it because its a new societal expectation (social engineering at its finest) but on the other hand it promotes the idea that dickheads like crenshaw walk on water and shouldnt be questioned.
If someone wants to express thanks for military service, shake a combat Vietnam vets hand. They deserve it more than anyone else

I don’t particularly care to be thanked for my service. I made a choice and all you fûckers (and me) paid taxes to put up with a ton of queep to occasionally do some really cool shit, and generally accept I bartered my life for somebody else’s politics.

I also get ‘thanked’ by every taxpayer for my service every month, just like clockwork. That bit of thanks is a reminder I’m on retainer and subject to recall to active duty.

Let’s not even talk about the thanks I get with Tricare. If you think it’s a great healthcare for free, let me ask how you’d feel being seen only if space is available, by a non-board certified physicianor a PA, or NP who’s experience is generally summed up by diagnosing anything that either 500mg of Motrin or penicillin can cure. I argued for a biopsy for three years before I convinced a doc to do it and go figure, melanoma.

Wow. Some bitter folks on this board. Did anyone else get off a flight from sunny southeast Asia and get called names or spit at after serving in a rice paddy? "Thank you for your service" may be a hollow platitude and overused but is a whole lot better than in the treatment during Nam. I look at the "thank you for your service" in the same way as "happy holidays". Doesn't hurt so why get pissy?

Unless he makes a major gaffe, I'm supporting Huffines. He's taking the best, most principled approaches from what I'm seeing, hearing, and reading.

Also, I think West is very weak from a moral perspective.

I didn't have a choice. But I always get taken back when someone thanks me for my service.

I am grateful to anyone who chose or was chosen to serve our nation and did so. Whether told to or voluntary, being put into a position to kill or die for others in the service of your country regardless of doing either is worthy of thanks.

I generally like West, but I am concerned his reaction when his wife was arrested was hot-headed and short sighted* and I am leaning, therefore, towards Huffines as I think Abbott will win and any vote for a potentially more favorable (conservative) candidate will help push Abbott to the right.

If west or Huffines takes the primary and can win the general I'd be pretty happy, but Abbot would be WAY better than anyone from the demoRATs.

*My take is you cannot be pissed off suddenly because its personal. If your position changes simply because it is personal, I cannot trust any of your positions. Proclaim your wife's innocence, proclaim your trust in the system then praise the system when it works and proves your claims right and afterward praise the officer for making the choice they believed was right at the time with the limited information available regardless of the person's status...

If Huffines could give an explanation of how he's going to do away with property taxes, I'd be more likely to listen to him on everything else. So far that hasn't happened and I think it's impossible, so he's either blowing smoke or lying.

This is a big issue I have with Huffines. The property taxes ain't gonna be eliminated. Either he doesn't know what he is talking about or he is intentionally lying. Both bother me.
