I have a marlin lever action on layaway. Should be payed off in the next 3 to 4 weeks. It's in the 30 30 caliber. The previous owner put a scope mount on it. Not sure if I will keep it and add a scope or go open sights and remove scope mount. Either way I'm happy and can't wait to have it for my own

I was taught that it's a sin to put a scope on a lever action rifle. That was, however, before I got 2 cataracts. Never say "never"....... snicker!

I put a Nikon scope on one of my Marlin 1895 45-70 rifles and it has become my piggy gun. The sky didn't fall and the rifle looks pretty neat!.

You might leave the base on the receiver and use the rifle with or without the scope. Best of both worlds.

I assume the model 336. I have always had an affinity for the 30-30. One of my first rifles was the Winchester model 94. Great brush rifle. Never had a scope on one, but I guess it depends on what you want to use it for.

I have two lever guns with scopes. My Henry 22 and my Marlin 336.

I developed some awesome rounds for that 30-30. 125g flat HPs. Devastating rounds.

Even though I'm just a casual rife shooter, my true love is the lever action, I prefer Marlins.

I just never could bring myself to installing a scope on an LA. However I did put a red dot on my 45-70 Marlin when I used to deer hunt. Those critters would only come out just before dark in very thick brush and the dot scope worked better for my aging eyes.

As a teenager in the mid the mid 80's I worked a ranch in central Texas. Had a scabbard on my saddle that carried a 336 with a Weaver 4x. Never missed anything I aimed at. Still miss the hell out of that old rifle and that old mare that didn't seem to mind me shooting off her back. She might have been deaf.

Opinions on scopes seem to change with age and eyesight. At least mine did. Still love the lever actions though, and always did like the Marlin.

So have you got it yet, or are you still waiting?

I've got it. Just need to take some pics of it. Just been busy working and playing the role of dad when I'm not working.

I have a Nikon Prostaff on my 1894CSS. I like it, makes up for my age declining eye sight, and lets me use the rifle to its potential. I used a neoprene sleeve + foam riser set up from Beartooth Products to adjust the comb height to suit the scope.

I have the Cabela's brand scope on my 1894 that has a BDC calibrated for the Leverevolution ammo.

I've got no issue with a scope on on lever rifle as long as it is in proportion to the gun. So no large high magnification deals with huge objectives. A fixed 4x like Leopuld's FX II 4x33 or maybe their FX II ultralight 2.5 x 20. Or a small variable like the VX2 2-7x33. Any of these sized scopes work pretty well on levers and will add quite a bit to accuracy over irons especially when you reach out past 75 yards or so.
