I don't recall anyone saying just because someone is a hero (or anyone who is a celebrity, rich, movie star, or whatever) you have to agree with him. Then again, I don't think that some of the people who are posting here would speak to him with as much disrespect and invective in person as has been displayed here, online. I do believe he, as all veterans, deserves respect (not agreement) due to the sacrifices and experiences he has made for our nation.

I dont think anyone has posted with much disrespect at all. There are some that seem to have put him on a pedestal and maybe some of his politics have caused him to fall off for others. That's life. Look how people here talk about McCain. Prisoner of war for 6 years, tortured, and still refused out of sequence repatriation. I think that is some of the bravest stuff I ever heard of. How have you heard people here speak of him? Yeah Marcus has nothing to complain but compared to that. Stating you don't really care about going to a personal appearance because of a political stance or comments isn't disrespect in my book.

Agreed, Luttrell is a self-admitted ******* and there's more than just his comments about UBCs that I disagree with. I respect what he did as a SEAL as much as I do any other SEAL, but the fact that there are argumentative issues about his book and even the mere fact that he felt compelled to write one is enough to not make me a fan.

If someone wants to go see him because Mark Wahlberg played him in a movie, than I am glad they get the opportunity to meet the man.

And to the OP, I have no qualms about you posting this up. In fact, I appreciate anyone who shares information that others may want to know. I simply stated I would pass on the chance to meet Luttrell and gave my reasons. If others believe differently, than I wish them the best and hope the have a positive experience.

Wouldn't be appropriate to do it in public face to face, but perfectly cool to do it anonymously on a public forum. Ok, got it. I never said anyone should automatically go along with anything. I just said I'd be honored to meet him. Not because of his stance on UBCs or who he supports for President or any other political opinion, but because the guy is a hero in my opinion. And yes, I know some of the details in the movie/book were greatly fictionalized. Apparently so was Kyle's book and movie. Hollywood embellishments don't change how I feel about either man.

Why are you asking me? I just answered your question about what I thought was meant by that statement. I already gave my position on how relevant I find his beliefs to be in my first post in this thread.

Yeah I quoted you but I didn't mean to imply that I was asking you. Sorry.

Cool, because I did not want to encourage anyone to confront him face to face. I was just translating what I believed the comment meant.

It would depend on the venue. If he were speaking at a wounded vet event, or doing a book signing I think it would be inappropriate to get in his face about his position on UBC. If he were speaking at the NRA convention about doing all you can to protect gun rights, it would be wholly appropriate, as would it be if he were running for office.
