I used to have a Miata. Black 95 base.
Yeah, it's easy to talk shit about Miatas, until you take one out on a mountain road one day, realize you're passing all the other sports cars and running with a pack of sport bikes instead...
Did a good alignment on mine, stainless brake hoses, 8.5lb flywheel and some Azenis RT615 tires. The thing was scary fast on a twisty road.

Have a buddy in Pflugerville with a little red Gen2 Miata.
There is a full blown Flying Miata breathed on motor in that sucker that puts 325HP to the rear wheels.
Drives more like a way overpowered shifter cart than a car.
Light to light and other short runs, it's a giant killer and he sends plenty of V8s home with their tails between their legs.
He said he measures his tire life in smiles instead of miles...
Exwife has 2010 Grand Touring model. Somewhat fun to drive but sure would have been better with anothef 100hp. Just seems lacking on power unless you rev the shit out of it.
Try an S2000 some time. 9000 RPM engine? Yes, please!
IMO, the s2000 is definitely the top of the small/light sportscar genre. They are so much fun to drive. Unfortunately I don't really fit in them. It's odd that I can fit in an x1/9 which is smaller, but the s2000 is way too cramped.
Read the mag reviews, Car&Driver, etc. After the test drives, the drivers all want to go drive the MX-5 (Miata). It's not about HP, its about handling and responsiveness. Drive the Three Sisters or the Devil's Backbone, top speed is irrelevant. At the TWS track, the MX-5 beats the big guys because of the handling. It's just fun to drive.
