I read about some del sol haters on here. Hating on a del sol is like hating on a honda civic - they're the same car. My buddy Greg has a vtech out of a prelude with a big ass turbo in the front bumper. That car can't plant tires hard enough and shreds tires in 1-3rd until it gets to 80. If you're in the BCS area look for the red civic with an exhaust hole cut in the bumper on the drivers side. It's too fast.

Dont sleep on civics. They could possibly be one of the best sleepers.

Not quite the same car. Same platform though.

    What's a "vtech"?

A FWD anything is still not in the same category as an S2000 or Miata. FWD cars can be fun economical commuters, but there's no way to compare them to a RWD sportscar. Completely different feel, performance level, and design intent.

My thoughts exactly, though I chose to keep them to myself and exchange such verbiage for several face-palm smiley faces. I wish I had a penny for every time I see a FWD with an aftermarket spoiler... on the rear of the car.

I had a Mazda Miata Millennium that I bought new in 1995. It was my daily driver and I loved the hell out of it until I figured out it was completely impractical and also a POS. Sorry, that was before camera phones and selfies so I don't have pics.

These days I've got practical completely covered so I'm all about impractical but not Mazda impractical.

I used mine as a daily driver for 7 years. Never a real problem.

Definitely not a POS. ITs still running.

Of course, I have the Miata specialists at Gas Head Motoroworks maintaining it and repairing as needed.

Of course, the next car will be a 2006 H1 Alpha with the Duramax turbo or a Subaru WRX STI wagon.

The Suburu WRX is a bonafied badass. Just look at its annual standings on the European circuit. I don't know why you'd want to ruin it by making it a wagon.

    Not trying to be rude.

You hush your rude mouth sir!

Wagons make the world go 'round.

My friend just bought a new WRX. I have got to say I'm jealous. The car is amazing, performance as well as practicality. I WISH THEY MADE IT IN A HATCH!!!

Drove a Miata today for the first time. I may just have to get one! I had a blast running through that 6 speed tranny. Felt like a big gocart with a radio and a/c.

My first car was a '92 V6 MX-3 (Miata hatchback) - I loved that thing. I could burn new Vettes and hot-rodded stangs easily from a red light, it got about 26 miles to the gallon, drove and maneuvered like a dream, and had tons of bottom end acceleration. I bought it with 67K miles on it, added another 38K, and besides regular maintenance, only had to replace the flywheel, a fan belt, and right front wheel bearing during my time owning it (about $200 worth of repairs). I sold it to help finance a Camry and kick myself to this day. I still miss it.. I will eventually buy another.

Yes! Im glad you see what im saying! Im arguing with Scion FRS fans right now that the Miata is more fun to drive.
Fun is a pretty subjective term. A first gen Miata would definitely be more chuck-able than an FRS but I can't really see it being faster at anything other than the tightest autocross course. The newer MX5s are just about as heavy as an FRS, plus the FRS has a more evenly distributed weight and lower center of gravity. How the car is balanced has a lot to do with "fun feel". Of course convertibles are their own type of fun, but after owning convertibles for 15 years I'm over it. I prefer coupes with cold a/c now.

Did you test drive an FRS while you were buying your new frugal dad car?

How is a FWD car a "Miata hatchback"?
