Local shot has one for sale, looks to be in really good shape. I have an M44, but would like one of the long-barreled versions as well to put one of the reproduction sniper scopes on. Is this a fair price? I am thinking about going to pick it up today......

The M38s are the shorter carbines without the bayonet. The M91/30 is the model with the longer barrel and has the modern (for a Mosin) sights for the ammo available now.

That being said, the M38s are good and would make a great deer gun. I have an M91/30 and it's a good gun.

Cabelas had a real nice Mosin on their rack the last two times I was in there. It was around $125. If we are talking about the same rifle, then heck yeah, that one is clean. If I remember correctly it had a pretty clear bore too.

Junk / regular Mosins are $75 + shipping. So figure shipping, transfer, etc. and $125 is about right. Especially if it's a good one.
