The spray that my daughter uses is called cyonara. It is really effective and lasts about three to four weeks. She gets it from the local feed store.

Is this the spay your daughter uses?

Interestingly alot of pesticides are actually nerve agents, marketed for pest control because it's trickier these days to sell nerve gas.

That is the same name but the spray that she uses doesn't come in a hose sprayer. What she uses has to be mixed in a pump up sprayer. It is probably the same thing though. She has to mix it with water.

We got the Cyonara and some Dr T's bits at the feed store (btw.. they had it 25% cheaper than that website) and will be trying them out. We have a pondless waterfall, almost 2 acres of mostly wooded land, so.. I'm hopeful this knocks them down.

Neighborhood organization came around last year and gave everybody a set of those Spartan Pro Tech things. Each house got 3 of them and we all put them up. I've been checking with the other neighbors lately and the consensus is 100% that they didn't help one bit.

Bug zappers kill bugs - and that's very satisfying, but they also attract bugs. So you kinda want them near where you expect to be, but not too close or the bugs may bite you before getting zapped. Also, zapped bugs more or less explode, so you don't want a zapper near where you have food or you'll end up covering it with fried bug guts.

There are 2 basic kinds of mosquitoes: those that breed in standing water and those that breed in mud (e.g., Asian Tigers). The kinds that breed in standing water are more likely to carry disease, but the Asian Tigers can produce biting insects in very little time. Essentially, once it rains and turns the dirt into mud, they hatch and start looking for victims. Getting rid of standing water helps a lot, and you can get those mosquito dunks that go in culverts and drains. They keep the little wigglers from maturing into adults. There are yard sprays that will kill the mud versions, but if it rains enough, the spray washes away.

Short of bringing back DDT, there's no single magic bullet for mosquitoes.

Spartan's claims are pretty much junk. For the first major product (the "eradicator") they claimed that dissolved salt would somehow "slice" the mosquito insides and kill them. For the pro tech, it does not seem to attract mosquitoes at all.

Yes, but they're very ineffective against mammalian nervous systems. So they're a whole lot safer than dousing your yard with VX. They will harm or kill mammals in huge quantities, but not anything like what you'd spray on your yard.

I'm beginning to think, considering there are dozen of control remedies available (& the skeeters are winning the war) that they are all scams - except for DDT.
