    To All,

    Other than my much beloved 420SEL (WITH EVERYTHING), the car that I would love to have back was my 1993 CHRYSLER IMPERIAL with 3.8 V6 & all the "limited edition" MARK CROSS "goodies".
    (Mine was bought at auction out of a doctor's estate a year old, in DEC94, with about 6000 miles. = I think that the 1ST owner must have just said to the dealer, "I want my car in NAVY with real wood trim & navy leather. Load it out with every possible option.")

    The Imperial was stolen from the parking lot at DFW Airport, while I was OCONUS on TDY in SEP96. = BOO HOO.
    (At that time I was commuting about 75miles per day X 5 days a week = VERY COMFORTABLE with the "AIR-ride suspension".)

    TRY to find one of the early IMPERIALs in good shape. = I looked & looked for a low mileage/one owner car & NEVER found even one for sale.

    My '64 Crown Imperial had:

    Cruise control
    Speed warning
    Infinitely variable speed wipers
    Search and seek on the radio (tube set)
    Dual air conditioners (another evaporator in the trunk)
    Automatic headlight dimmer

    Probably forgetting a few things. Very advanced for '64.

    Two reasons. Unless it has been kept garaged and stored for the last sixty years, and was kept outside, they are rust buckets and will be very expensive to restore.

    Second, any of them in really decent or great shape, more than likely the owner knows what he has, and it's going to be priced accordingly.

    AGREED.

    FYI, I find so many really LOW MILEAGE/ONE OWNER cars at LOW PRICES because I "haunt" the estate sale notices in 4-5 States, keep some considerable cash on hand always & am willing to travel for a bargain".

    ADDENDA:: EXAMPLE. = This pm I found a "loaded" 1-owner 2000 GMC Suburban with 77,000 actual miles for 2200.oo out of an estate sale. = It has 4 new MICHELIN tires which were bought 2 weeks before the PO passed away.
    (As I need another "tow rig" for my "new to me" 17 foot , 1961 LA MAR boat/motor/trailer. it will be coming to SATX to stay.)

    Is that an MG TC? If so, my oldest brother had one as his first car.


    The 1955 Chevrolet could be considered an iconic car for Chevrolet on a couple of different levels.

    It was Chevrolet's first successful V-8 engine, and the small block Chevrolet engine could also be considered iconic in it's own right.

    Brand new styling for 1955 that also offered many new options that were not available before from Chevrolet, like power windows, air conditioning, power seats, power brakes and power steering.

    Middle brother had one in 2 tone blue that he restored. Spent lots of $$ on paint, interior, engine, etc, and took it to car shows. Got really peeved when David Crosby wouldn't pay him no nevermind. This is my Bros car:

    IMO Iconic can also depend on what world one is in. I don't necessarily agree that something has to be known worldwide to every generation to be iconic. For example I posted a coupla cars that are iconic in their own countries, notably UK and Germany. Also, some cars are iconic in the various diff racing or collector worlds.

    Station Wagon ---- Iconic body style. The folks had a 50ish they bought new and we went to a lot of drive-in movies in it. And trips to the beach. The older bros drove it until Dad bought his Dodge 880 Torqueflight that I inherited as my first car. Gave it back to them and bought an MG1100.

    The ONE "family" CAR that I did NOT get that I really, really wanted was my Uncle Larry's VERY LOW MILEAGE/1-owner/"fully-loaded" GENTLEMAN JIM, the GMC version of the El Camino, as he said, "You have too many cars now. You don't need this one" & TRADED IT IN to a local Chevy dealer. W/O telling me.
    Beau Sandlin sold it to another Chevy dealer & it sold before I found out who he sold the truck to.
    (My uncle passed away about a decade ago & I'm still "hacked off" about that little truck, as it was "one of a very few" in that shape & is, in 2020, quite RARE.)

    FWIW, the GENTLEMAN JIM had LESS than 18,000 miles on it when my uncle traded it off after >5 years. - I later found out that a 16YO kid's dad bought it for him as a "1st car" & the kid TOTALED IT less than a year later.
