Couldn't find a FNH SPR configured to my satisfaction. So...

Take one NIB FHN-Winchester Coyote/Varmint (for not much more than the cost of an action).

Head out to fire form some brass... and really start looking forward to the dies arriving so I can develop some real loads...

There's at least 800 in barrel and stock. The bottom metal I'm sure is around the 200-250 range. Plus Smith fees and the original rifle.

.243AI. I picked this caliber for several reasons. First, phenomenal performance. Second, if I'm out someplace and run out of bullets, in a pinch I can always swing by Walmart and pick up a couple of boxes of .243, and the chambering is easy on brass due to the steep shoulders (minimal / no stretching).

    Cost?
The donor and stock came off of gun broker. It's the same action used for the SPR. After selling the stock & barrel, the final cost of the donor was just shy of free. The stock is a Sub-Minute Solutions McMillan, partially inletted for an M70 short action. I figure the stock must be about 5-10 years old, as SMS is long out of business and was 1/3rd to 1/4th the cost of ordering the same configuration from McMillan today (not to mention the 9 month wait). The TBM I picked up in a closeout. The Barrel & Trigger were ordered to my spec from the Manufacturers, as were the mount and rings from Farrell. The glass is just something I had sitting around as is the YHM QD & Can.

When we went to true the action... there was nothing to true - it was true. That's telling of FNH's QC department.

How much am I in it? Just this side of a turn-key Surgeon or GA Precision, with enough left over for a set of dies, a box of Berger 105 BTHP, a cup of coffee and maybe a slice of pie.

Nice choice. No need in justifying an AI to me I'm running a 7mm-08 AI.

How are you going about forming brass?

I had a few of boxes of 243 floating around... Some winchester, Federal, Hornady. Just left over odds and ends. The above 5 round group was shot with 95 SST Hornady. Fire forming seemed to be the simplest process. I've got enough to form about 80 pieces.

Later on, I'll load .243 virgin brass with 105 bergers. No sense letting any effort go to waste.

Nice. I took some advice on the builder for doing a partial form before really loading anything. Just took a few grains of shotgun/pistol powder in a primed case fired straight up with no projectile. It doesn't radius out all the way but does get it close enough load development can start.
