    To All.

We had a condo just outside of McKinney for several years (until about 5 months ago) & given my known interest in wildlife (And as a TMN, with my contacts in the TPWD), I find it "somewhat peculiar" that I didn't even hear any "common gossip" about a big cat being present/seen anywhere near Collin County.

    yours, satx

It appears that the Rowlett / Princeton cat was passing through. So its unlikely any common gossip would exist.

I'm curious about his path north. I have heard that they follow rivers and creeks when they travel. I know folks on the Brazos river that have seen and heard them.

And FTR I hate that they killed it.

Would have been cool if it had been sedated and a tracker attached. They do cover huge areas.

You might have a really hard time on safari in Africa! Beside the big cats, buffalo, elephants, rhino, hippos, hyenas, crocs & snakes would have you totally freaked out! I still remember the first time a felt a rhinos foot steps as it was up on the ground blind I was in. Even better was sitting around a fire in a boma & hearing lions roaring most of the night.

Best advice a professional hunter told me about snake bite was if you get bit, find some shade to die in!

    baboon,

WELL SAID. = Further, there is "considerable wildlife activity" in some MAJOR urban areas in Sub-Saharan Africa. = In one "reported case" a full-grown male leopard "was shooed out of" an art museum in Jo'burg, RSA & in another case a leopard was shot/killed in the Durban mayor's back garden.
(My old school chum, Wallace Emory, who lives in Jo'burg, commented in an email to our alumni assn's. newsletter that, "------ the intruder had to be 'escorted from the premises by police officers', as he had not paid for a ticket to enter the museum.")

I expect that both incidents created "considerable excitement" among museum patrons/neighbors.

And that's what this one was doing too. [Assuming it's the same one]. The first trail camera to spot him, was in Dallas County, on the west side of Lake Lavon (close to the lake). Then, apparently he traveled north to the Princeton area (Collin County) - all, while keeping relatively close to the west side of Lake Lavon. Then following the eastern most creek, of the twin creeks that create Lake Lavon. Winding up in Hunt County where the deer hunter took him. This caused him to range further north (and east) than Farmersville. [Farmersville is where my land is - my "shooting range"].

Lucky it didn't come into my neighborhood. When we moved in, there was a bobcat that was always seen walking the neighborhood. Some asshat had it trapped and spayed/neutered and then released back into the neighborhood. Wonder if that is a TPWD violation?
Anyhow, a guy I worked with from Celina said there was one living out in that area. This was about 2 years ago. Have yet to see one in the wild.

    cvgunman,

I'd bet that was one "seriously PO" bobcat. - I wonder if the "humane society" actually "tipped his ear", as the feral cats that I feed have had done.

Anyone notice the serious typo in the NBC5 story on the sighting in Princeton?

" If the lion is aggressive, throw rocks, sticks, or anything you can get your hands on. "

No, if the lion is aggressive, shoot it. Because mountain lions don't kid around when they get aggressive and throwing a stick at it will only piss it off.

My wife encountered a cougar and a bobcat several years ago in Coleman county. Her night time strolls were always exciting. She actually had more trouble with the owls. I told her to look taller.

I moved from Colorado 18 months ago, we had cougars around the house every week. The TWO world record cougar kills were both taken within 11 miles from my home. Carry a gun, do not run and leave the big cats alone. They are part of nature and pose little risk to people.
