Nice to meet you all. SF (and by (legislative) extension, CA) have gone crazytown, so I'm coming out here for a new job.

Capitol Armory is also super nice and friendly they let me preorder a bunch of suppressors before I got there, so I could do all the paperwork when I arrive and not have to worry about them being sold out of stock. (And I need some lowers to SBR... and an MP5 pistol to SBR, if I can find one in a few days)

I don't know how much different Austin is from San Francisco. About 30 years ago my wife and I were in Austin and I was advised that I might want to visit some off the beaten path places that included a visit to Hippy Hollow . I knew it was a clothes optional place but I had no idea it was just a bunch of nude gay guys looking to score (not a female in sight)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might feel at home but I have no plans for another visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome.

Austin has no control over the state (and by extension, Constitutional Rights), which is the main issue.

Socialists are by and large harmless, unless they get control over others...

Dont move here and start up with the, "back in California we did it this way" talk. Remember why you left CA. and vote and act accordingly. DO NOT! ever say, "Oh like how". Now welcome to Texas and try not to be one of THOSE california transplants.

Welcome from a Bay Area refugee, Vallejo, You will not have any issues adapting here. I just treat Austin like San Fran/Berkely/Oakland. Only go there when I really need to. Lots of good places to live here In Williamson County or any county surrounding Travis cty. Get you vehicle plates changed asap and get a Texas drivers lic. Don't expect a great difference in housing costs as the influx of people here has created a shortage of rentals, but there is a boatload of new construction housing if you plan to buy. Let me know when you get here, maybe have a meet up. There is a tread in the Austin subforum about Friday lunches. You can meet new folks with similar viewpoints. Again WELCOME to the FREE world..

    > Don't expect a great difference in housing costs as the influx

Considering SF is above $4k for a 1BR, yeah it's fine.

Plus SF has water on 3 sides, and Austin can just expand however it pleases.

Some folks don't think paving over ranches in the Hill Country and urbanm sprawl in general is a desireable thing.
Welcome - please heed prior request on realizing you left for a reason - if you get homesick then go back for a refresher course rather than trying to change us to fit.

I am from Sacramento. When I got out of the Marines two years ago I moved to SF with a crazy liberal x girlfriend and after five months there I had enough so I moved back to Sacramento. Going from being a Scout Sniper in the Corps to being surrounded by hippies did not go so well.... After getting more involved in the 2A community I decided to move to Georgetown, Texas next to my brother at the beginning of this year. I did it just in time.

Just personally wanna thank Texas residents for a welcomed safe haven. Would love to do a meet up when I get back from contracting in Afghanistan. Cheers fellas!

I second that. Welcome, but leave Commiefornia behind. If you're one of "those" californians, you won't like it here, and won't stay long.

I second this also. We sent my youngest daughter back (Antelope, CA.) for two weeks, as a 16th B'day gift because she was a little homesick. She was reminded as to why we left there, and has no desire to go back again :).
