Just realized it was 2 years ago tomorrow that I got my first firearm! I went in the Sunday before Labor Day, and picked out a Ruger AR556 for $450. Paid for it, then they ran my NICS, and told me I was “delayed”! I had no idea what that meant, and was scared out of my mind! I went home and researched what that meant, and the penalty for failing the check. I honestly thought there was a chance I was in big trouble! No real reason for me to be prohibited, but that didn’t stop my mind from racing. The next afternoon, Labor Day, they called and told me I got the “proceed” and I could come pick it up. I still thought there was a 50/50 chance it was a set up, and I was getting arrested when I showed up. Again, there is no reason for me to be prohibited, but my mind had me convinced! 2 years later, and the addiction continues!

Oh yeah! I ended up getting my C&RFFL, so I can get stuff shipped to my house, and not pay the transfer fee. That $35 has saved me hundreds in fees, but cost me thousands in old guns! I sometimes look at my safe and just shake my head! Then I get on gunbroker, and bid on something else I can’t live without!

Awesome Cody! Glad to see you embracing the "affliction" and going in the right direction!

I wish you many more years of buying, collecting and shooting.

May I suggest, since you seem to be into the C&R type firearms, learn to be a custodian of their history to pass along to younger shooters, and even some of us less informed older shooters as well.

There is a younger member here, @Maverick44 that is a very close friend of many years, and he is very eclectic is his gun purchases, but he researches and studies the history of the older guns he buys, and is almost like a walking encyclopedia on guns.

Oh, you give me too much credit on that. I try to learn a much as I can, but in all honestly, my knowledge is shallow on most things. There's just so much info out there about these old guns that you can't retain it all. Basically, I can tell you a little about a lot, but only a lot about a little. :p

Getting a C&R is the worst possible thing you could do if you want to save money. It makes it SUPER convenient to buy old guns, which inevitably leads to a safe reeking of old wood and cosmoline.

If you are interested in old guns, go check out C&Rsenal on YouTube. He goes to a level of depth on explaining the history of these old guns that literally no one else on the internet comes close to matching. The amount of research that goes into each episode of his show is staggering. You would likely have to spend hundreds of dollars on books and countless hours of research to get all the info he puts into a single, well organized episode.
