LOL, I meant magazines without a failure.

    Gunz are icky.
Ok and what does it indicate?

    Improper re-assembly.
Some 1911's have a very stiff plunger spring.
It takes three hands to get the slide stop into position without letting it slide against the frame.
This sliding across the frame causes the scratch.
It's a non functional thing. Looks bad but doesn't have any effect whatsoever on the guns functioning.

A 1911 was the first pistol I learned to disassemble, clean and reassemble as a child. My Dad (a Marine) educated me the first time about idiot marks and would have beaten me within an inch of my life had I put that on his 1911!!! I learned to pay attention to what you were doing, and as it was the first one I learned on, it was etched forever in my mind!!!

I have a twenty something year old stainless Springfield "Loaded" in 45acp. It has had over 35,000 rounds down the pipe. I am careful when I disassemble and re-assemble my 1911s. No idiot marks. I returned this "Loaded" pistol to Springfield for a minor issue. It was returned to me with a promenade "idiot mark". Go figure. Even the factory guys slip. My gunsmith friend buffed the scratch out at no cost to me.
Haven't returned any of my firearms to a factory since.
