Just ordered an STI RangerII from Talon. I hope the wait is not very long. Anyone recommend a conceal holster for this pistol?

What mags work good with STIs? I have always used wilson in my other 1911s.

Also. What Hp rounds are you STI owners using for carry? Which rounds have you tried and had excellent results with?

Wilson works well in any 1911 platform I have ever shot, and my current carry ammo is Hornady CQ-TAP....

Awesome, I bought an STI Eagle 5.0 from Talon and it took 3 business days to come in.

Use the Wilson 47D mags, and shoot whatever you want through it. Speer GoldDots, Hornady TAP, Corbon DPX, etc. are all good choices for 1911s. You want something with a heavy grain weight so the nose is generally elongated, making it feed more like a FMJ.

Great choice. Ditto XD9, you won't regret the purchase. We all have our personal favorites, but I've become a hardcore fan of STI since getting an Eagle 6.0 earlier this year. While there are a number of other fine makers of 1911s (Kimber, Colt, Wilson, Springfield, etc), I think STI is in a class by itself. Shooting my Eagle is like using a finely tuned precision instrument. ENJOY!

    They are grate quality.
I have had no problems at all with them. I like to stick with factory instead of third party.
Here is my recent experience with STI Customer service....

After Thanks Giving I send a email to there customer service department about a slight scratch I have in my slide... after a few email exchange I am now sending my Escort in for refinishing... and not only they are going to refinish the slide but all the parts :D . Now that is awesome!!! Kudos to STI!!!

STI does make a fine weapon. I have a trojan in 9mm that I shoot regularly.
As for mags, any 1911 mag will work but most recommend Wilson, Chip McCormick, Mec Gar, or Tripp.

Wilson's and some of the others have plastic followers that wear on the part that locks the slide open on empty after several thousand rounds. Others have a metal band there to prevent that. No biggie either way.

I have found that the El Paso Saddlery "Street Combat" holster really holds the 5" 1911 really well. High and tight...but you can get to it fast. It does not flop or shift around and conceales really well. EPS holsters are not always the cheapest route, but they're VERY well made and last forever. I own three EPS holsters and have run them through the ringer for many years and none of them look like they're giving out or cracking.

I conceal a 5" Kimber TLE II in the Street Combat holster and love this set up.

Congrats on your purchase. I was looking at one before I blew my you know what on another AR project. Its on my list of handguns to get. Mind if I ask what the going rate was??

As for mags in a 1911 Wilsons tend to work, but McCormick Power Mags work just as well and are usually more cost effective.

As important as the holster is, the belt is equally important. Get a good gun belt. Holsters, there is a guy in Azle Texas that makes good ones. Also El Paso Saddlery has nice ones. Name brands are Milt Sparks--available from brownells or midway (I forget which) and other on line places. High Noon, Low Alesei, Don Hume, Galco, and the list goes on.
