My new to me M-1 Garand! I only have this pic from a camera phone because I took the digital camera with me to work and so my wife couldn't send me a better pic. When I fly home in a little over a week I'll try to post a better pic. S/N 585XXXX indicates it was manufactured in 1955. I can't wait to take it to the range and put some rounds through it.

Looks pretty nice. Guessing it's an HRA. You might want to check on the CMP site on some recommended parts to clean before you take it to the range. There are also some recommended and not recommended ammo types to watch for. The guys on the forum there can answer any questions you might have. Most commercial ammo is too hot for the M1 and you could bend the op rod. The ball ammo that the CMP sells is okay for both the M1 and 03 Springfield. They just got in some of the new Hornady M1 specific ammo.

    Very nice!
I'm in the market but for the 30 carbine. I have hundreds of rounds of brass from my last one.
Like a dumb ass I sold it years ago.

Thanks guys! Bullseye, it is Springfield according to the serial# databases I found (at U.S. Military Dates of Manufacture and http://www.fulton-armory.com/tea/m1serial.htm) I bought one spam can of ammo as well, so I'm good to go there. Not too mention, there isn't a better price for ammo (192 rds for 84.95 to your door). Any M-1 advice is welcome, although I have been poring over the CMP forum info for the last week, my brain is on M-1 overload...lol

    DC, it's milsurp 30-06 (M2 ball)

Had a Centruy Garand (traded it later), fun to shoot, very accurate, CMP's website has a excellent assembly disassembly guide, picture by picture, I would highly recommend using this when disassembling (it is fairily complex to field strip). And I would completely strip it and clean it before firing. Also might want to go ahead and order a heavy duty clip retaining spring. A very common problem is as the spring wears, and the first round is fired, the remainder of the enbloc comes up and either jams the rifle of flies free of the reciever. Save you enbloc's as well, sometimes they are tough to find. Be sure the front sight post is tight as they can also vibrate loose and come off while firing.

Still in the CMP box I see!
Keep the brass from that HXP, there might not be any more.

I haven't read it myself yet, but one of my co-workers said CMP got another 70 million rds and it should start being available again in January. If that's true, I'm gonna be buying as much as I can...lol Either way, I'll definitely be keeping all the brass I can.:happy0001:
