    Howdy,
A short while back I posted a couple pictures of an old axe that was somewhat interesting. It is a mean looking thing that would be down right scary if some near-do-well was waving it at me. I did get some interesting comments and also some real helpful information the seems to fit this thing.
For those that wanted to see more pictures of it, I finally found my "round-to-it" being back to my home base. I've only been home twice since the first of December and the missus looks just like she did when I was away.. just fine!
    Enjoy! John

    Whew!
Title made me think the thread was about my wife.
Same here on the battle axe comment. I just stopped and bought mine a box of candy and a way over priced card at Kroger while picking up our old folks meds. So if we are speaking of axes axes as an old Boy Scout will say I much prefer a machete to the cheesy Boy Scout hatchet. That is only good for hammering tent pegs. A good machete is good for chopping off snake heads and felling trees..killing bad guys etc.

There was an M. Davis in the 9th Regiment, Texas Infantry during the Civil War. They saw substantial action in Mississippi.

Not saying this was his but it's intriguing.

Do you have any clues about the history of the piece?

    Want one of these...

    Why?

You can't open a fire hydrant with a hatchet.
You can't chop wood with a wrench.
You can't dig a latrine with an ice pick.
You can't decapitate zombies with a trowel.

So what are you going to do when that Taco Bell comes calling with no bathrooms around while your house burns down, you become hypothermic, and a zombie horde closes in? You're gonna wish you had a SPAX, that's what.*

    Cheers! M2

I believe the second one is Iuka, MS which is east of Corinth.

I just gave away an extra SPAX I had. Would have gladly given it to you if I would have known. I throw axes competitively, they are not very good for that, but look like an excellent survival tool.

I appreciate the thought, I have been needing to get one up ever since I completed the Community Emergency Response Training last Spring. It is a very handy device for such situations as well!

I used to see them at gun shows, but the problem is I don't go to those events much any more...

Yeah some of the guys I know hand forge their own and have huge collections, but I'm lazy and pretty accurate with the 15 dollar axe since I started off on that. It's the hi-point of axes.

I don't have anything on it and the friend I got it from is now passed away. I believe that the Davis Mills on the handle is in reference to a place. I do not think there were any further markings. By the way it is from the 9th Cavalry. The handle was shortened about a foot due to rot where it had been standing in the wall where it was found. It is all I know about it.... great conversation piece. Lots of offers at CW shows... it is NOT for sale! John
