    Gunz are icky.
Not to highjack the thread but you might check out the TISAS guns from Turkey.
They're pretty solid for the $.

Of the two you listed I go with RIA.

Charles Daly & Rock Island seem to have the best reviews for least expensive 1911's

Between these two which would be the better one
Go with the RI, the CD is a good gun but uses different pin sizes than standard 1911's which makes the sear geometry different enough that swapping hammers/sears and disconnects are all difficult.

Charles Daly only imported the RIA made to their specs and one of the first to do so. I bought one when they first came out. One of my favorites.
Google Charles daily over and under shotguns again some of the best.

I am afraid that I cannot make a valid reply to this. I am very biased toward my favorite one.
I am NOT saying that there are NOT some really great choices out there but many factors come into play with price being a determining one. You get what you pay for and not everyone likes what I like. Like women, some like the ones with a little meat on their frame while other prefer a burlap bag full of handlebars? My limited experience with 1911's covers around 63 years.
Try a bunch and get what makes your day?
My most recent purchase is a Remington-Rand !911a1 National Match made in 1944.
    I have pictures....

    RIA.

Be aware that when you buy a low-end 1911, you will probably end up with what I call a kit-gun. You wind up spending all sorts of money adding the stuff that slightly higher priced 1911s already have and yet the value of your gun doesn't go up. Biggest thing is the beavertail grip safety. That 1911 "bite" in the web of your hand will soon convince you of why the beavertail is standard on better guns.

RIA is the way, to go. I had one and it does what it is supposed to do. Pull trigger and bang every time. I sold it to fund other stuff, but for the price ya cain't beat em.

Most of mine fall into the "Mid" range, although I have a number in the high, and a couple in the expensive. I'm seriously considering one or two in the "hide" range at present...unless the better half finds my mad money stash.
