how so....
it's permit based
I guess I am wrong, I did not think one person could shoot 8 deer......
I shot over 30 last year.
MLD permit. And I have taken 8 at a feeder, although 4-5 is more common.
There are special management permits that allow more than the usual number of critters and even year round in some cases.I guess I am wrong, I did not think one person could shoot 8 deer......
You are soooooooooooooo wrong. With a bolt gun you are not going to get more than one pig in a sounder.
You just need to practice more on the follow up shotsObviously there are going to be constraints, but for most people that aren't on management hunts and with regular tags... the bolt action is fine.
The pigs we've hunted break at the sound of the first shot, and into heavy brush. I don't think I could get off an aimed second shot on them with anything short of a M60.
We generally stick to bolt-guns out at the ranch, but we do take M1As and ARs.
The problem is the terrain, we have a narrow firing lane at the main hog area. There is a large opening that would be ideal rifle country, but nothing ever walks out there but the occasional coyote.
Well then you should bait the hell out of it
Most of them are at work.Because of the cows we have to do daylight shooting there. The piggies don't like to come out that time of the day. Coyotes will sometimes come out there, and we've nailed one at 400 yards.
Where do you find all these piggies? We've been in a pig drought lately.
He goes to a pig farm! Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh
And 400 yards is a long shot on a small critter. brownie points
Find water{ tank, creek, etc} and bait that area. You can also put out a water trough and put 50-100 gallons in it. It will require taking a lot of 5-10 gallon cans or buckets in the truck out to it but if you really want the hogs, you will have to think outside the box during this drought.
...a sounder of 20.
What is a "sounder of 20?"
Sounder is a group in reference to pigs. It's the same as saying a gaggle of geese.
