We're going to need them. Get used to seeing large bills with the way that inflation promises to go off. If Obama has his way, our currency will be like that of Italy. For years I used a 500 Lire note as a bookmark. I eventually lost it.

Damn.. it was a good book mark, too. And the ones you buy in the store are like $2...

I read somewhere about 3 weeks ago that the fed was considering issuing continental currency that was not allowed to be circulated outside the US boarder.
Their plan and thoughts were it will allow the dollar outside the US to fluctuate with the market and stabilize the dollar inside the continental US, or so they think!!!
If the dollar lost to much value China would hold worthless US GEO currency / debt and we would repay it with continental currency at twice or three times the value.

I don't remember where I read this but it was dam scary!

I noticed a lack of the $1 bill...... Are they planning on coins for anything smaller than $5?? Those bills look eerily like what I've seen overseas.

We've already seen massive inflation thanks to the real estate boom and the associated home equity loans buying all sorts of cheap plastic crap, second homes, etc...

I was under the impression that it does say it, but it is one the edge of the coin along with the date.

I kind of like the coins, but no one know what to do with them. I confuse them for quarters.

Economically, they are less expensive than dollar bills, but I think they are something of a fad that will go away.

Notice that the phrase "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private" is not on any of the notes. If that means that they won't be legal tender and competing currencies will be allowed then I say bring them on. Getting rid of legal tender laws is probably the best thing that could happen to this country. In a free market of competing currencies the Federal Reserve Note would be dead in no time.
