Looking for ideas for a new gun.

No particular use in mind. Price $600 or less. Shoots cheap ammo is a plus. Something out of the norm is good too.

Looking at a PPS43c but it seems the price of surplus ammo has gone pretty high for what it is. Seems it used to be really cheap.

Also considering an AK or VZ58 if I can find one in the budget.

    .
something "out of the norm", for sure

a Rebel - .22LR (can't get ammo less expensive than that..)

(based on the discontinued Ruger Charger, which was based on the Ruger 10-22 rifle but all custom machined parts)

Tactical Innovations - less than 600

    Gunz are icky.
Unpossible to answer unless you give a little more info on what you want to do with it.

Ever consider black powder? The cap&ball revolvers are messy fun. Flintlocks are historical and a hoot to play with.

Cheap ammo has become an oxymoron.

CZ makes a nice little bolt action carbine in 7.62x39.
Ruger makes a nice little 77 bolt carbine in 357. I want one bad. Probably be a tad over your budget tho.

GSG makes the MP-44 clone in 22LR. These fall within your budget.
They will soon be coming out with an MP-40 clone in 22LR although it looks kinda dorky with its faux suppressor.

Mil-surp - about the only game left that is affordable is Mosin-Nagant rifles in 7.62x54R.

Rock Island makes some nice 1911's for < $500. I'm looking at the 9mm Tactical now.

I have no intended use at the moment. Just looking for ideas and things to look in to.

Pretty much just seeing if somebody mentions something that really catches my eye or looks like a cool gun to have.

    Either or.

Like the STG, reviews look good. Gonna hit a few gun shops and see what I can get my hands on.

Shop around; gun shows, newspaper adds, gun shops, etc. I'd vote for an older gun that has some "classical" value. Not only do they look good, they hold their value (or increase in value) forever. I really nice, deep blued Colt or S&W revolver or (as noted earlier) a surplus gun, etc. Just my two bits.

RIA compact tactical 9mm shoots really nice. .36 or .44 cap and ball are a lot of fun too. Get an extra cyl. Though, not something you shoot real fast. 50 rounds take awhile to load.

I have one of the STG-44's.

    It's a lot of fun.
Spoiler: It is BIG and Heavy. Not a 22 for smaller folks. Mags are pricey. Need to use hot 22 loads. I've had good luck with CCI mini-mags. Low powered bulk stuff not run so good.

LOL - I've gotten to shoot Itchin2Shoot's a couple of times. Whatever the deficiencies they might have, they're still a whoot to shoot.
